I knew it. As the strip down continues in preparation for the body repair, I've been removing carpet from the boot and parcel shelf and I can't bring myself to put it back in afterwards. Plus the foam underlay is as tired as you would expect it to be after 31 years. So it looks like I'll be doing new black carpet (replacing the brown) throughout. No experience but what the hey, how hard can it be?
I figure I'll use the old stuff as templates for the new, then get a trimmer to do the edging.
Has anyone else taken the plunge and re-done their own carpets? I'd be very interested to hear how it went.
Cheers, Toby

I just finished mine in black. For the interior you will need a minimum of 7 metres of carpet. 5 x Tins of heavy duty spray glue. 2 x yellow marking chalks and several stanley knife blades. You will need a bit of space to lay out and cut your pieces remembering to ensure you cut your pieces with the grain. When glueing in your carpet do it in sections working your way along the piece until its in position. Use thinners to clear off glue oversray.
In the past I have used superwool which is the best quality because the pile is tight but this carpet rots easily if it gets wet or damp unless you have a garage. Otherwise Tufted Nylon is great and cheaper too.

Oh okay thanks. I have two types of sponge foam. The thick speckled stuff all around the boot and across the parcel shelf. Then there the thinner grey stuff, used behind the vinyl in a few places. Haven't tackled the foot wells and transmission tunnel yet, job for this week.
Guessing its an orbital sander to remove the old glue?
