I have noticed this a couple of times now but this one was blatent!

I have been repairing a Seat Toledo for a friend and was watching a headlamp and an indicator that I needed, on the final day I put my bids in (no-one had bid anything so far) and the bids sat at £7.99 each and off I went to work.

When I get home low and behold I had been outbid on both items by a zero-rated bidder only to find I have been offered the lights by the original seller within an hour as a 'Second Chance Offer' at my maximum bid of £14 for the headlamp and £8.50 for the indicator.

So the seller gets the maximum I would pay rather than letting the auction do it's thing.

FECKERS!

These are the lights, check the bidding!

I'd mail them back saying I'd take them at the price I won them for, thanks. And report them to ebay.

At risk of getting flamed, I would add this.....It`s an auction FFS ! Bid to what you want to pay and then leave it. The same thing happens at "live" auctions, where you can end up bidding against the wall, so what is the problem?

I would add that Ebay is becoming more and more frustrating. If I am interested in something and there are bids from zero rated people, I have been known to send an email like this....... "Dear seller, I am interested in your Item, but I notice it has attracted some zero rated buyers. Obviously some are genuine, but there are others out there who seem to enjoy spoiling the auction for genuine people like you and me by falsely raising price and then not paying. I had intended to bid to xxx and am a genuine buyer. If you would like to accept that bid now, please contact me on 1234 5678.

Worked a couple of times.

At the end of the day depends how much you want them. £14 is presumeably still way cheaper than any other source.
You could offer your opening bid, and suggest he re-lists them if that's not acceptable, but they might go for a higher price.

Yep, I have had this happen to me before too. But, since its a second chance offer you can simply turn it down.....

Leave the stupid eBayer with the goods and no sale. Stuff 'em. Oh, and report them for dubious activity....

Its morons like this who spoil it for everyone else.

I have to ask, is it really worth the hassle of trying to save a couple of quid???

can be uite genuine seller activity. When i have a few items the same to sell i will auction 1 and then give second chance offers. I feel that people feel its dubious too though because people rarely take up the offer.

I hate Ebay the same way I hate car boot sales, I just can't be bothered to sift through the genuine from the complete crooks and rip-off merchants.

Exactly, I can't be arsed dealing with people who can be bothered selling all their tat for £2.

I'd tell him you are willing to pay what your bid was before the dubious zero rated guy bid you up. He can take it or leave it.

Agreed, but it is handy for finding obscure stuff. A few good deals to be had in motors, but only buy if you are prepared to potentially waste your money (I`m talking 200 quid bangers here).

It was great when i first started using at back in `00, but has got progressively worse. Kids and crooks have farked it up for everyone.

That's right, and it's a shame for the genuine sellers out there , but, as you say, just like what has happened to the humble great british car boot sales, they seem to have been taken over by seemingly crooked sub standard market stall type rip off merchants.

Ash - the day you are compared to a dodgy tat trader will be time for us all to give up!

Love the video btw.
