I popped into John Lewis today to see if I could get a look at the Panasonic TX-50CX802B which is only out a month or 2 and is priced at £1799, they didn't have this TV but the salesman pointed me towards a 55" Panasonic 55AX902b, this is priced at £1499 but when it was released last September it was £3499 in John lewis, the sales guy sang the praises of this TV, would the better option be to go with the newer model tv??

Also I like the look of the Sony Bravia KD55X8509CBU which is £1649, has anybody got any experience of this TV??

Thanks

the cx802 has been out since last week i picked my 55 up on saturday after cashback from panasonic the 55 is £1799

ax902 is a great set has some issues though and the more future proof set is the cx802 as it supports HDR but doesnt have as many lighting zones but the 902 suffers quite bad banding on them.

4k is amazing
hd looks wonderfull
sd it really looks alright on it

mine should be getting calibrated in teh next few weeks to make sure its bang on.

any questions please ask

these were just taken on my crappy luma 630 so they dont do it any justice at all

Thanks for replying, I'm stuck and am unsure what tv to get, I really do like the look of the Panasonic, but a guy in John Lewis was pushing me to get a sony tv, I'm unsure if he was genuine in saying that sony are better than Panasonic or they were just pushing the sony TVs at the moment.

When you say you are getting your new tv aligned, what do you mean??

Calibration is basically correctly setting up its colours so it is showing the picture how it was intended they adjust it for the environment the amount of light etc usually you have a day and night setting as in the dark it needs less backlight etc.

Funny enough when I was in jl York he was trying to push me to the Sony's without even having the Panasonic's in to compare them. The only thing the Sony does better is sound as it has the large front facing speakers.

IMHO for 1799 you can't go wrong with the Panasonic 55cx802

For similar money you can get the LG 55" OLED. I definitely wouldn't spend that much on an LCD TV now but at the same time I'd probably wait a year or so and see how OLED prices come down/technology improves.
