Hi folks,

Looking for some advice if possible.

Someone clipped my car at the weekend. My car was parked and he tried to squeeze through a gap that wasn't there and damaged my car.

We swapped details and I thought it would be a pretty straight forward resolution.

It now turns out he has given me a false name, phone number and registration number (I should have checked it myself but wasn't thinking at the time)

Luckily a witness to the incident knows him and has given me his name, address and phone number.

The only thing I cant get is the registration as it hasn't been seen at his address since.

I phoned him and he denied it was him.

Does anybody have any ideas if its possible to get his registration fusing the details I have??

thanks all

I'd pass all you know onto your insurers.

Regarding the number plate, it'll either be a slight deviation on the real one, or a complete random.

But if you can remember what car it was, tell your insurer, and they may be able to check what car is registered at the address you have.

What a terrible situation to be in.

Depending on how far you want to take it it's telling the local police.

If you don't fancy doing that then just tell your insurers and let them get on with it.

sounds like his car is in a local bodyshop being repaired to he can then claim no damage!

If you don't get anywhere with your own insurer and the facts are as presented an accident management company will help out.

So are you saying the other vehicle had false plates on? Or did you not look at the reg and just took the number he wrote down as gospel? If the former I would get straight onto plod, should be easy for them to put a ANPR marker on it

Shirley he's broken the law by giving false details?
Isn't it awfully close to the same thing as failing to stop at the scene?
I'd be having a word with my friendly local plod, if they're bored they may have a gentle word with him and suggest he fess up to his insurer in exchange for the criminal charge not happening.
Next time get photos, always get photos.
