I think Steve Strange has a 2.9 in an S that they are breaking. Not sure if it is a C model or with AFMs.

Whats the difference between a C model and one with AFM ?
Ive been in touch with him and hes "getting back to me" if hes a gearbox and injection stuff - but they arent quick with replies !!!
I will be using a megasquirt with it so any tips ? or common problems ?
Thanks in advance

C's have CATs and oxygen sensors fitted. S3C and S4C were the model names.

S2 and S3 models didn't have CATs or oxygen sensors. They used AFMs - air flow meters.

Megasquirt advice can be found in the Chimp enclosure or from the Grief owners. Not sure any S owners have fitted it.

You may wish to carry out the gear linkage mod to the gearbox. It shortens the tail housing and thus removes the linkage arm that makes the lever action a bit odd in a TVR. Popular mod for those fitting the Type 9 gearbox to Schimaters and MGs.

Philpot has carried out the mod to his S3.

Hi, I have a 2.9 Cologne engine from a 1990 S2 that had done 72000 miles, I bought it from a very reputable chap Norman "GeraldTVR " on here for spares when I bought my S , over. 4 years ago. The S it came from was being broken due to rusty chassis. The engine was running fine before removal from the car. I needed the water pump and housing,, these are a little difficult to obtain it seems. The engine has been sat in my garage wrapped up dry and warm ever since. There is no plenum or manifolds and the water pump is missing, other wise I believe it is all there, if you are willing to collect it, from me it will be doing me a favour to have the space.

Thanks for offer S2mike but I'd like a complete engine if I got one, If MK1fan would like it thats ok.
Ive talked to a few places about different engine & an easy option is the Mazda MX5 (later one) with 140 bhp & new ecu so could get 170 ish bhp, but would it have too little torque ? My wiring is knackered so loom could be used - or is it a real crap idea ?
I had an S2 years ago so like the 2.9 but dont want to get stuck with a project for years.

They are light cars so a 170hp 4-pot should be fine.

There is the loss of aural pleasure though.

If you're happy with a 4-pot then the Ford Duratec ones are worth a look as is the Zetec. Nice weight saving over the Cologne anchor too.

Hi Stewart, If you wat the engine then its yours. Will have to check it turns over ok, then all being well arrange a suitable date for you to collect. I have no engine crane or whatever, so ideas tools for moving it from its slumber matress, it was lifted into my works van with 4 people and a strong pole with the engine roped to it.

Cool.

Is it drained of fluids? Might be heading up Coventry way with a fellow PHer to collect a car at some point in the next two weeks so could add that to the journey.

Yes there are no fluids, but am out of the country until 19th though. Once back can check all is well, wouldn't want to be offering a siezed lump to anyone. Even free of charge.

Was. 2.9 ever fitted if you are doing a swap have you considered something newer 2.9 parts are getting rare.

As you are using an aftermarket ECU the cosworth 2.9 might be easier as it has crank sensor and wasted spark but these engines are rare and expensive.

I have a jag s type v6 in mine but if doing now I would love a 3.7 cyclone engine and box from a mustang.?

Or a v8? That said the 2.3 duratech is where I would go for a 4 cylinder.. They can make 300bhp in an form mental.

Good luck

I guess that you have searched Fleabay. I was told about this engine when I bought some other parts from Douglas Valley Breakers. http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&alt=...

I think you may find the engine loom won't be such a big deal if you can get one out of an original car it was fitted to. Cars I've seen certainly fords have a number of fairly separate looms, the engine loom being one of them.

What's in the Tasmin at the moment, a 2.8?

2.9 will drop onto same gearbox won't it?

Are the gains worth the effort scratchchin

It's an automatic at the moment & when I picked it up the seller blew the gearbox getting on the trailer !!
also not sure what condition the engines in - it runs but seller had it blowing steam out aswell...
I really fancy putting MX5 1.8 in then when its running and MOTd stick a supercharger on - but if I ever come to sell in the future would anyone buy it ??
body comes off soon so chassis can be finished then paint body, rewire it, retrim it then stick new engine in, a little bit to do.

an MX5 would work but not sure if it would have any value when you come to sell
The S needs a 6 or 8 cylinder motor

a few have put other 6's in -mine is a Cossy based on the original and I know another has a Jag v6

however if you just want to enjoy the car and not worry about resale then the MX5 would be fine

Its alright, it's a Tamsin not an S wink

The Tamsin was available with a 4 pot so shouldn't be too 'special'.
