Origin b2 installation
Discussion
I am about to install the above into my 996. I have a becker sat nav already installed that has a GPS antenna already installed. Does anyone know if it is possible to get a signal splitter to tap into the existing GPS antenna so that I do not need to install another one in the car?
Thanks,
Alan

I don't know the specifics of your particular equipments, but it depends much on the gain of the antenna you have.
Introducing a passive splitter will result in a 3dB loss (half) at the existing end point. Given that the designers of such sytems will consider the antenna gain when they design the receiver, and then allow a margin for poor reception areas, you will need to think about this when you introduce your splitter.
Overall the splitter will have the effect of compromising your reception. You could use a splitter and an amplifer, but this will affect the noise figure for the receiver.
Another solution is to have a splitter and a better antenna. For a 3dB gain, it could be quite a bit bigger.
Sods law says the hole for your existing antenna is in the middle of the car! Another possibility is to get a second antenna that is entirely inside the car. I have one of these for my tracker, and it seems to work OK. Talk to a specialist!

Failing that, you could try your auto electrician......
p.s. The datasheet isn't necassarily the suitable component, just the one at the top of the list. The actual choice will be dependant on your equipment.
