RANT WARNING....PLEASE DO NOT READ IF EASILY OFFENDED.........

Bought a new ecu multiplug and pin terminals from the flea which arrived today, all good there.
The reason is to try and fix my miss fire, the gap between the top and bottom of each pin terminal in the ecu multiplug being far too wide thus my thinking is that the multiplug is not gripping the ecu terminals well enough.

So I carefully, one at a time, splice a wire off of the old multiplug, crimp the wire onto a new pin terminal and one at a time lock the new terminal into the new multiplug. When the terminals are locked in they cannot be removed from the plug. The first 3 or so I crimp (with my brand new thin nose pliers, yet more money) like there is no tomorrow, there's definitely no way the wires are parting with the terminal !!!
Then I get a bit flash and try to do the next few quicker. This is P**S EASY I think.
Then I notice that one of the wires is lose in the terminal, hang on that one is lose too yikes
For some stupid FcensoredG (ScensoredT for brains me) reason I pull on them and then both of the wires come out, looking at me as if to say "maston, you are a complete TcensoredT" yikes
So now after spending £40 on the new plug and terminals, I am completely FcensoredD !!!
I lose it and grabbed the other wires and yanked them out whilst shouting "You FcensoredG CcensoredT !!!!
I sit back and admire my work......

Oh well.....

To add insult to injury I have mixed up the earth wires, does each earth wire have to go to the exact pin number on the multiplug or just to any earth pin ?

Options are :-

1 Set fire to the wreck......
2 Do absolutely nothing and let it rot there for the next 10 years.....
3 Pay an auto electrician an obscene amount of money to fix it
4 Sell it to Glen for £100 (PM me !!! lol)
5 Buy another multiplug and try again.

If I had a 1000m extension lead I would solder the wires into the terminals.

Why oh why do I have to fiddle with it, I am so compulsive !!!!

If any of you kind people have any ideas/tips/advice I would love to hear from you.

Thanks for reading this biggrin

RANT OVER

Have a nice evening biggrin

Ian...Why were you doing this in the first place?...If the ECU plug was a bit loose what was wrong with cable ties?....I bet you never took any pics for reference either did you?...What are you like......Take a very deep breath and think about your next move very carefully....

Hi Mark....The cable tie didn't work and unfortunately didn't help.

The main problem being is that each pin terminal in the multi plug has to grip the corresponding connector on the ecu but the gap on my terminals are far too big (gap between top and bottom of the pins) and hence not gripping the corresponding connector and therefore not making a strong enough electrical connection.

As long as they are making contact they should be okay...I have had my plug off a few times but don't recall it being tight until it clips fully home on the L|H|S of the plug as you look at it..

I thought you said the ECU was at fault and thats why i recommended BBA reman in Rochester, They sorted one out for someone a little while back and it looked brand new and came with a lifetime guarantee ..They changed ALL the resistors with a completely new board all for £200....It has made a tremendous difference to his Wedge..Money well spent as they say.

I might be wrong about the plug as i tend to leave it alone....I had an issue with mine weirdly un-clipping itself and thats why i suggested cable ties around the plug pulling it to the ECU...Hope you haven't created an even bigger problem....

Ian......I'm your man. More than happy to part with cash and fettle your 390SE

Just need someone to cross my palm with some £££ for the white wedge and we can certainly find a figure that you / I are happy with

Wasn't going to put my white wedge up for sale until post 31st July (move day) but if anyone wants or knows anyone interested in the humbug PM me. It won't be expensive.

Ian, can't you just take a look at a fellow wedgers plug for reference of where the the wires fit, even take a photo?

Hi Steve,
The only real problem now is working out which earth wire on the multi plug goes to which earth pin on the ecu ?
If it matters ???
Luckily, or not whatever way you look at it, half of the wires are still in the original multi plug and the other FcensoredS have been cut. They are all colour coded except the 3 black earth wires furious

I always tend to solder these terminals as unless you've got the specific crimping die which is £££££££, the grip on the wire tends to be a bit crap.

Are these standard Junior Power Timer terminals? If so i've probably got a roll of several hundred kicking about somewhere in the workshop.
Hi Bobby,
Thank you , the terminals are the same as these :-

Hi Ian,

The engine loom is a seperate loom to the rest of the wiring and is only connected to the rest of the car by a few wires in the fuse box area. It might be easier to get hold of another loom and swap the whole lot over.

Or if your 1000m comment is because you have no electric power for soldering; how about a gas powered soldering iron? I've never used one but I know they exist.

You can normally get the pins out of connectors with a bit of effort and a diy tool.

The terminal will have a flap that sticks out and engages in the housing. You should be able to slide a probe in through the outside of the housing and press that flap in allowing the terminal to be removed. A bit of spring steel wire often works, for a few pins even a paperclip can do the trick.

It is fiddly and frustrating sometimes, but I have managed it on a few different types of connectors.

Very true but in the case of the ECU connector, they're held in by a 'comb' so they can (and do whistle) come out very easily.
