I'm afraid it's a case of "they all do that Sir". Mine's the same occasionally. Nothing I've tried makes any difference, it'll eventually trip over in it's own good time. Only real solution I believe is to take the unit out and send off to speedy cables for a service.
As long as you keep a mental note of how many miles covered whilst it is stuck (to keep the right side of servicing etc.) then you'll just end up with a slightly lower overall mileage reading than actually covered, so as long as it functions at MOT time I don't really see a problem. These cars aren't really bought on mileage anyway, are they ?

Luckily I have the upside down dials which don't suffer from this but isn't there a trick about reversing a bit which sorts it out?

This might not work for you, but it did for me. I have an early Chimaera that clicks every 1/10th of a mile. I reversed off the drive, heard the click as I was reversing and then it started counting as normal. Find a quiet car park or road and drive backwards to see if it clears your stuck counter. Could have just been pure co-incidence, but I will not know until it sticks again.
