just managed to get a set of these but have a mini dilemma going on,i have just had the original dampers refurbed and a decent geo set up and the thing is very nice to drive. So should I put the kw's on or shift em on? anyone gone to the clubsports and is it a worthwhile swap? (I know its no real biggie to swap em back)

also if I do put em on some tips on setting the damping would be helpful
cheers

The Clubsport is based on the KW competition damper and shares many of it's components and valving etc so its a decent quality damper. The downside is that the spring rate will be matched to the valving so you will have a very stiff set up which you may find uncomfortable for road. They are aimed at the driver who occasionally drives his track car on the road. If you fit into this catagory then deinately fit them. If your car is mainly being used on the road then I wouldn't fit them.

Good advice above. I have KW Clubsports on my Evo and the only road driving it does is when it is driven to events and that is hard work given the stiffness of the ride.

The car is rarely used a little road use and a couple of trackdays a year,I prefer the car to be stiff so they are going on,they are the manthey ones btw if that makes any difference

I have them on my Manthey-ed Mk1 CS - love them to bits. Although for a prolonged road trip on the UK's poorly surfaced B-roads, a fresh new set of OEM dampers would be nicer. In Europe though and at the Ring they were amazing.

just a simple answer to your question.
you are happy with how the cars rides, but want to fit a set of stiff dampers which you don't know how to set up !

I thought is was just easier to say sell them as that's what you asked.

"So should I put the kw's on or shift em on?"

sell them was my best advice.

I'm not sure if the Manthey valving or spring rates would be any diffrerent. If they are, it will probably be very minor over the standard kit as I think that the Clubsport range was developed for competitors in the VLN which is where Manthey tend to test/set up thier own bespoke tuning products.

If the dampers are new, they will already be set with a base line set up for your car which will have been done at the factory so you should already have a decent balance in them. If not, there is a lot of set up info on line for these dampers so you should be fine

Good luck. let us know how you get on

I have KW 3 ways on my 996T [ I know its not the same car etc etc ] and they are superb, easy to adjust and great control, I would fit them without hesitation.

My apologies for not being a pedantic prick wink

Hi Darron, can't offer as much insight as others on here sorry and I have vanilla KW3s not clubbies on my Mk1.

When I got the car I thought they were way to stiff for B road use (on my first outing I overtook a little old couple in a Polo on 2 wheels after hitting a bump on full charge eek) but that was probably a combination of me not knowing the car, poor roads and a lack of thinking on my part). I sourced a set of original dampers and planned on getting them refurbed and fitted but had a Ring trip planned so decided to preservere a bit longer.

On a fast smooth track they're fantastic and inspire much more confidence not just through the corners but on high speed straights where your setting up for slight bends (uphill through the Forest etc). I don't do a lot of miles in the car and my trackdays are pretty much behind me know however I've just come back from a 2.5K mile trip to Monacco/Stelvio and never once thought the car was to stiff. Sure big expansion joints can be a worry and broken surfaces or big bumps can unsettle it when on a heavy throttle but I don't find it surprises me now I've a few miles under my belt.

I'm running very much road geo with PS2s and have the settings as follows, (as per JZ)

Front 0.75 bump
Front 1.00 rebound

Rear 0.50 bump
rear 1.50 rebound

All from full hard. You sound like your pretty experienced and given you useage, I really don't think you'll be disappointed

I thought that was a very strange answer. From your original post I too took it to mean you didn't know how to set them up. A simple lack of knowledge, nothing insulting.

In terms of your original question, are the KWs new or used? If used, do they need a refurb to make sure they are as intended and doing what they should?

Bert

Pip
I heard double that ( but they were the Manthey items) and if there's one thing Olaf is, it's an astute businessman, accordingly the Manthey KW's have to be sent back to Manthey so they can take their cut of the servicing costs.
Nitron stuff is similar pricing at £120 ish. Ollaf is having a laf.

Just take the manthey sticker off n job done ;-)

Manthey uk distributor is just up the road from pip and I in Kent. Hoo to be exact.

Were these the ones on ebay for £700? They were around five years old I think so due a rebuild. Still good price though I guess.

well fitted them and had it set up,again,by jgr motorsport in blackpool and the car feels great, guess at 700 quid these were a bargain as they don't warrant a rebuild according to jgr, cant say much about the drive but the car does feel mega stiff, spose ill have to play on track to adjust them up to how I like em but first impressions are positive
