My father-in-law has just offered me first refusal on his 55-plate Mk5 2.0 TDI. It's in GT spec, with 130k on the clock and he's had it from new.

It hasn't been pampered in the same way as I do my own cars and it's a "countryside" car (mud, bramble scratches from the lanes etc), but it has full history and I know the car well.

He's been offered £2k trade-in. I was thinking about this as a second car or even as an even as a replacement if I can get it up to spec (mainly a deep clean and some exterior / interior cosmetics).

Obviously I've got my supercharged R32 but it's only on 57k miles - and I was wondering how the 2.0TDI would wear the higher miles?

Mileage doesn't sound too bad for its age, my 11-plate which I've just replaced with a new one is on 105k

It's just standard service items like the cambelt which I'd mainly be weary of, and you need to consider components like the turbo and clutch/ dmf may be approaching end of life if haven't already been replaced.

On a positive note it's too old to have a dpf which is one less potential problem area to worry about!

For £2k what's the worst that could happen?
