Just after a bit of advice...I was cycling to work yesterday when a transit van overtook me and a 6x6 fence panel flew off the top of the van and met my head sending me bloody flying.

Next thing I know I'm at the side of the road with people around me and an ambulance en route.

Didn't need the hospital, but I have a fair bit of road burn, cuts, bumps etc. some people said I should claim on the guy who did its insurance-but I'm not sure exactly for what!? I haven't looked the bike over properly yet as my pincer capabilities on my right hand aren't great from the swelling.

In hindsight I guess the police should have been called for the unsecured load, but I was in a fair bit of shock.

Just wondered if I can do anything, or as I suspect; it's a case of I'm still here, be grateful no big damage-avoid vans with fences on them.

Sounds like a straightforward insecure load.
If you have/can get the details of the van report to the Police & make a claim against their insurance for damage to your bike etc - although even with the vehicle details I'm not sure how you'd start that, hopefully someone who does will tell you!

you seem to be able to get £5000 for a stiff neck, i suspect if there is actual blood you could get your mortgage paid off

If an accident results in injury to someone, doesn't it have to be reported to the police?

Not if the required details are provided at the time.

No you can't. The total bill may come to that, but you'd be lucky to see £1700 of it. The rest goes into your solicitor's pocket via costs and fees.

So the payout is mortgage paying off money, but the victim loses out to the ambulance chasers?

What are the fixed fees for "portal" work at the moment, Loon?

Your mortgage is £3,300?

But anyway, if you feel like pursuing the injury claim without a solicitor, nobody's stopping you. Good luck.
