As a novice with a PS4, what 2 games would you suggest for learning control? Ideally want one to be a driving game, so is Forza the best? I realise this is a big ask but if I'm going to shell out on new games, I'd like to up the odds of them being suitable.

Thanks in advance. smile

Forza is Xbox-only, I'm afraid!

If you buy PS+ membership, there's a version of Drive Club you can download free of charge. It's no Forza (IMO) but it's worth a try.

Best PS4 driving game at present is Project Cars, but it isn't the most easily accessible game.

Other games to try?

GTAV
Batman Arkham Night
Witcher 3
Bloodborne (be careful though as it's not for everyone)

What kind of games do you like? I mean, Battlefield 4 online is great - you will die a lot whilst you learn how to move etc but hey ho, you will have fun too.

I'm not really sure to be honest? I used to like the old platform games on earlier generation consoles, so I guess it's more playability than realism? I liked the original Call of Duty when I tried it, but I'm useless when it comes to learning the controls. I assume / hope this will come with practice? I'd like a driving sim with the likes of Brands Hatch & Nordschleife if such a thing exists for the PS4?

Yes if you get Battlefield you can play "offline" and learn the controls. To be frank after a few hours it becomes second nature using your thumbs to move/look/aim etc.. When I first picked up the controllers I was hopeless.

Project Cars.
Bought it and really enjoying getting to grips with the M3 at Brands. Got it set in novice mode and it's tough enough to steer. Goodness knows what expert must be like?!

Any tips?

Also have Batman Arkham to try in a day or two.

Hi,

I came from PC gaming at a high level and was very capable with mouse and keyboard use in First Person Shooter games. I moved to the PS3 after "retiring" so to speak from PC gaming and was utterly useless with the PS3 controller at first.

So in answer to your questions, yes stick with it, you will become more natural with the control pad and all the appropriate buttons as you play more and more. We all went through a similar learning curve when taking up the new system.

There are so many different genres of gaming accessible via ps4. I've been all the way through Alien Isolation, which is great but very hard on hard mode and frustrating too, through to Abes Oddessy, which is more about puzzle solving and some skills of platforming (really enjoyed it though) and also through bloodborne which was as equally hard as alien isolation but surprisingly, equally as rewarding too :-). I am now playing a PS2 game remastered for my PS3 called ICO. It's a very cheery light platform game. Oh yes, Resogun is accessible as an early start into ps4 gaming. Maybe try that.

It is hard to recommend a game that doesn't require quite reasonable use of the control pad, so just pick and choose and persevere till it becomes more natural. The main thing is to find a game that you enjoy as you will want to put in the required effort to become reasonable at it and at the same time learn the pad. PlayStation plus membership gives you access to some free games every month. It usually means you cover lots of different genres and styles that you wouldn't naturally buy. I'd recommend it.

My current tip is not to buy the utterly latest games. You can buy a good few games for PS4 that won't cost full price and are very good. Running a few months behind the curve is financially wise as you get your feet and if you can stay a few months behind, it will all be new to you but cost half as much. :-)

Cheers
RW

I might have to hunt out Abe's Odyssey. I loved that on the Gameboy.

I'd known of the series but never actually played it. I completed the game (near the end it became rather challenging!) but there are a couple of different endings depending if you find all the lost slaves, which, now having watched a play through is no easy to task.

Go for it.

:-)

Just my two pence into this but, Far cry 4 and The last of us, are 2 games you must try. In my opinion the best 2 games on PS4. I have Project cars and it if fantastic but something aint right with it. I like GT6 as you get rewarded by doing well with faster cars and upgrades. Project cars for me just takes the fun away as you can race what car you like. Project cars is brilliant thou I just dont get the sense of reward.

As for controls as with anything, the more you play the more easier it will become.
