They used to publish their timetables, at least here in staffordshire they did.

Believe me, sitting in bizarre locations is their party trick.

I have only ever seen them placed in bizarre hard to spot locations. Out of all the spotting the majority have been at the bottom of a hill in a 30 or 40. They truly infuriate me.

I even spotted a new location recently. A disused lay-by under thick tree cover. As you approach it the sun blinds you so you cannot make out the van. And you guessed it, they always sit there in the evening, when the sun is blinding you from seeing into the dark area where they sit.

Flippin jokers.

They caught my dad doing 36 in a 30, going down a steep hill. Not once been stopped for speeding in over 40 years of driving. Good sensible driver, not even been in an accident.

Absolutely, unbelievable, cash generating locations. Hang your head in shame van operators. Whatever your superiors tell you, you are not saving lives. I have mapped their locations to the accident black spot database and there is no CORRELATION!

So OP sorry, i do not know of any database that is updated regularly on new locations.

What would be better is to address the down right dangerous and stupid amongst our road users, like the enterprise van driver that decided to overtake just before a blind bend at 60mph despite their being a huge queue of traffic in front of him and the stupid idiot who kept going on the roundabout as i was already on it turning right or how about the maniac motocross rider that straight lined a small roundabout at 40mph+. so quick he wasn't there when i checked right (partial obstructed to the right) and then all of sudden he flew across.

All happened within the last month.

^^^^^^^^^^^^ Excellent advice - the camera database is probably the most useful app you can have on your phone.

Scamera?

You mean the camera vans aren't positioned in areas to lower speeding and ultimately death by doing 10mph over the ridiculously low speed limit on that road.

ALL DONE!!... Cheers for the advice guys
The camera in question was set up somehow, so it could record both sets of lanes right at the bottom of a hill from both directions, kind of in a valley etc. Because I drive the road 2 or 3 times a week(as previously mentioned for the past 30 years or so) I always drive it very 'spiritedly' and unfortunately on that day, i drove on one side of the dual carriageway pretty rapidly, met my bother for a quick pub lunch and then an hour or so later, drove back in the opposite direction just as rapidly, only to then spot said Scamera Van very obscured. It was a stunning sunny day, not a cloud in the sky, Prodigy cranked up on the Bose, 620BHP and 4WD to enjoy, surprise surprise my zest for fun got the better of me...

You've done the bit you say you have that I've emboldened?

Feel free to share it then. That'll make for a good discussion.

I don't really care if you got away with it or not; the real bonus is you are not as "spirited" as you were on that road now and most probably never will be. Winner.

Sitting in bizarre locations has been their party piece for a lot or time. locally (prior to erection of a fixed camera), we used to have a van hiding the branches of a willow tree. i've even seen one van parked in a bus layby under thick tree cover facing the limit sign . i'd expect the reason to be to protect the a school , just inside the limit( some 400 yds away ) from speeding cars. Sheer Hypocrisy -if SAFETY was a prime concern then it'd be placed a lot closer to the school and when the school was open -not at 6PM.

As for tapereel - sorry mate- those big boots ( ex pit, I believe) give the game away .

How very dare they interfere with people enjoying their fundamental human right to drive as fast as they like whilst unable to see very well? Of course, it's perfectly safe to get the hoon on whilst blinded by the sun. Doing so is the true mark of an "enthusiastic petrolhead".

Indeed how very dare they.

Id imagine that road is carnage if people using it can't see a van.

I'd imagine it is, if the dark spot the van sits in is in a live lane. Otherwise, perhaps not.

A short bit of 40 limit road near me has been dropped to 30 as its where two halves of a secondary school are on either side of the road. Nothing wrong with that, kids need to be kept safe.

Guess when the local scamera van was out enforcing this new limit? Go on, guess.

That's right, Saturday morning!

Unbelievable. Everybody knows that speed limits don't apply at weekends.

Everybody also knows that schools never have sports matches or band practice on Saturdays. I gather that, despite the best efforts of PH's favourite lady person (indeed the only lady person not from Maxim of whom PH approves), and her favoured and anointed son and political heir (PH not quite so keen on him) there are still one or two State schools that have playing fields and music rooms.

Luckily the noble, some might say spiritual quest for Austerity should see all state schools shut down over the next three years, so we can then drive as fast as possible past the sites which will have been turned into 400 executive apartments.
