Advice on brake noise

My '98 4.2 has started to make a judder/"noise" under braking.
Pads are ok front and rear.
As the slows down, I can feel the brake pedal moving back and forth with my foot on pedal. Not a massive amount, but it isn't smooth

Would this be warped discs, and how to tell if front or rear?
What is the best remedy? New discs, or "on board machining" I have seen advertised somewhere?

Is it an easy job to fit myself?

In addition there is a "click, click, click" coming from the rear, I think!! that appears to be in time with wheel rotation. Not a solid noise, like a knocking, and it dissapears under very light braking.........

Could the two be connected?

Any advice appreciated, as would a good Midlands-ish based Indy

A disc scim would most likely sort the shudder, or new discs if yours are getting a bit too low to scim.

The clattering will most likely be the pads rattling in the calipers. Some copper grease on the rear of the pad should stop that.

As to local independents, Topcats or Joospeed should both be able to sort you out.

Changing front discs is a simple job. In my experience the quality of fittings on the Cerb is far better than any mass produced car.

I had my discs skimmed and the wobble went for a while, but the discs aren't as good as new. For £20 its worth taking them to your local "quality" motor factors who will do it.

Also sounds like time to change the brake fluid methinks (and possibly upgrade to Goodrich hoses at the same time (£60!))

One thing to think of about your brakes is that they are AP Racing calipers, they will rattle !! They are not a quiet little set of puny brakes from a Ford Focus, it's their nature and when you drive the car hard and use the brakes plenty you'll be glad of it

Just something to think of when you hear that little rattle next time..........

I had a similar problem on my last car a Subaru Impreza STi, I could feel the disc turning through the foot pedal, turned out to be a cracked rear disc. Easy enough job to replace.
