I know there is a lot of knowledge here so let's hear it.
The boat will be used around the bay of Arcachon/Atlantic coast and the Med.I have opted for a rib for trailerability (is that a real word) and no mooring costs plus my perceived idea of it being easier to maintain. We would also like it to be a camper so bigger the better by my man logic, also big enough to keep 2 bickering teens away from one another.

Mrs S has already developed a soft spot for the Stingher 32 Anniversary for no other reason than it has a loo.

You lot must have some good suggestions and experiences between you to ease my pain and endless hours trawling the Web.

Having previously spent 5 years hauling people out of a variety of RIBS and boats that went hideously wrong at all hours of the day, please make sure whatever you buy can carry all the lifejackets/flares and grab bags for the 'incase-never-gonna-happen' scenario!

Don't worry, safety comes first. My Father was always the being ribbed by friends for the amount of "just in case equipment" we carried.

There is a brand spanking new 9m Stingher in the workshop in Southampton being worked on for delivery. 1st one in Europe, I think. Will try to get some photos.

The 800GT, with loo, has been a great success. We've sold loads.

yes

In addition I'd recommend some training, Powerboat Level 2 as a bare minimum, it gives you the basics. It's a good laugh too. Maybe get a couple (or all) of you through it so if the worst comes to the worst and someone goes overboard there is someone else capable of recovering them. Powerboat Intermediate builds on PB2 and introduces more navigation.

Also, always wear your killcord, get everyone into the habit of putting it on so it becomes second nature, like slipping a seatbelt on when you get into a car.

I'm not completely green but it's 20 years since I was last at the helm. The big difference is this will be my boat, bought with my money.

So even more reason not to stuff it on the first run out!!

There are a couple of resources for ribs, www.rib.net which has a forum, a bit like this, just slower. Also a facebook group, https://www.facebook.com/groups/rhibs/?fref=ts

Enjoy your new boat!!

As people said get trained up. I did PB2 with the mil (full immersion suit in a Searider in summer...oh what fun!) then did Intermediate with civilian school in Poole.
Well worth it. It may look from the shore relatively easy but when suddenly you are going around the Solent with bouys, ships (very large ships)and "chart?...its like a map surely?". And not forgetting when you come back and you look a prat trying to moor up with people watching you balls it up, you will wish you did a course.

Advanced is even more fun, the same, but at night! I did mine on the west coast of Scotland, in February, I had a drysuit on, and it was very welcome, waves above our heads!

With all this talk of RIBs, does anyone fancy a Ribeye 785 with a 250hp Yamaha on the back?

Beautiful thing - 250 hours ready to roll with life jackets etc.

Sadly, our 9m has a cabin for overnighting. It's only got twin 200's, but with a couple of 350's, 70 isn't very far off. wink
