Which Trek ? Newbie....
Discussion
I'm looking for a bike (hybrid? or a subtle mountain bike? crosstrail?) to do occasional road cycling, to local towns (10 miles return) and to local wooded/beach areas for bike trails.
I wish to spend no more than £500, would like a light bike with disc breaks, preferably lockable shocks and dual use tires.
I have been drawn to trek, namely ;
3500 disc @ £350

3700 disc @ £415
Marlin @ £415

none have lockable shocks....
Does anyone have any recommendations for me ? Specialized? GT?

Within price, much better spec and forks with lock-out.

Buy it boxed (reserve on line and collect) take it to a friend who is handy with spanners, let them build it up rather than Halfords. Some halfords are ace, others are terrible, its a shame as the great shops dont get the dcredit they deserve because the morons in other stores drag the whole thing down.

Hi lxm
I bought a Trek Marlin 7 29er £500 back in april, best bike ive had so far!
son has a Trek 3500 or 3700 cant remember which but it has cable disc brakes which are rubbish, the Marlin 7 has tektro hy brakes which are tons better.Took a while to get used to the bigger wheels would not go back now.
Have now done nearly 350 miles of mostly bridle path and rough farm tracks and roads and have to say it is the most comfortable mtb i have ever had.
