I was browsing exhaust systems for GT3s a while back and I tripped over a post that had some good advice for painting the inside of exhaust tips, so as to give them that brand-new black look.

But now I can't find the post.

Has anyone else seen it or, alternatively, have their own advice on how to do this?

I'd of just thought some high temp satin black spray would be fine?

Hi Jack,
Most important is masking, take your time and be precise. Remember to mask off the bumper of the car too, as overspray hits a lot wider than you may think. Spraying only takes a matter of minutes, but can be disastrous if you get your prep wrong. Preparation is key, just take your time and make sure you dont leave any gaps.

Any DIY store will sell high heat matt black spraypaint, the likes for chimineas and such. Use this and the inside of your exhausts will always look nice and black. Spray small amounts and allow to dry in between coats, until you get your desired effect. Dont spray too much in one go, or it will run and leave marks in the paint, which looks awful!

Hope that helps

Thanks Dan.

What about cleaning of the surface; that is, the inside of the exhaust pipe?

Do you recommend anything in particular?

Wire wool or Solvo Autosol will do the job just fine.

Be careful of any 997 you view with painted exhaust tips, especially the left one. Can mask a considerable problem.
