Hi Guys, long time since I've been on the dark side. Spent a few years distracted by aircooled nonsense.
Looking into getting the 350 back on the road now so I optimistically booked an MOT. The night before I did the usual pre checks, ran it up to temperature switched off and topped up with 5 litres of fresh fuel, enough to get me the petrol station. In the morning it fired up on the button and I started the journey. After 100yards there is a sharp left and steep incline shortly after which it stalled and refused to restart. Long story short... The fuel pump has seized up solid.
No fuel flows even when the pump is directly powered from my 30Amp starter charger. I even tried the old bash it with the stupid stick while applying power in alternating directions all to no avail.
I am now looking to renew the swirl pot, fuel pump, filter and pipework with the addition of including a pre filter for the new pump.
I've read all the previous posts thrown up by the usual search terms. What I'm asking is does my shopping list look reasonable and what fuel pump and where from?
1) Varying lengths of 6, 8, 12, 15 & 25 mm ID R9 spec fuel hose with appropriate clips.
2) Swirl pot from RT racing £120 not 100% necessary as the original is leak free but does rattle so the internal filter is not attached and small bits of swarf come out when shook up.
3) Sytec bullet fuel filter with 55µm metal mesh filter element with 12mm fittings to be installed as a pump pre-filter £55 + £17
4) Sytec bullet fuel filter with 8µm paper filter element with 8mm fittings to be installed as a pump post filter £55
It's a lot of money on filters but they were the only ones I could find with the appropriate size connections and specified mesh size namely a course pre filter and fine post filter. I would like to hear if you have found any cheaper alternatives.

I'm not surprised your fuel pump called time; it would have been trying to push through the sludge left by evaporating unleaded - yuk! If it's not too late; I'd say go for a Bosch pump not a powerspark or similar. Try and flush the tanks as best you can...
25mm hose, what's that for? There's an approx 50mm hose between the tanks but I can't remember 25mm. Car Builder Solutions for the 50mm hose. The larger pipe sizes are difficult to get, Merlin Motorsport do them.
I would suggest that to change all the pipes it's far easier to cut the hoses on the car and then remove the passenger side fuel tank to get access (only 4 nuts hold it on with bolts fixed in place inside the car). I've done it both with the tank in place and by removing the tank; cutting the hoses and removing the tank is far easier in the long run. Easier to clean the sludge out of the tank too.

The fine post-pump filter is a standard filter off the shelf for less than a tenner; I try and get a brand that I recognise (Mann, Mahle etc). Depends if you want to pay extra for the blingy Sytec stuff...

Now I've got the pipes off and drained out all the fuel it wasn't too sludgy. I had occasionally put fresh in. 25mm id hose connects the tanks to the swirl pot T.
Do you have a part number for the Bosch pump mine is Lucas and shows as nla.
I was concerned that the loose filter parts in the sp might move around and block the fuel supply off to the pump.

I had the same problem with mine when i started it after it had been stood
I replaced the fuel hose from the bottom of the swirl pot to the pump 12mm dia.
I incorporated a basic clear mesh filter so that i can see if there is any crap in there app £5 off ebay.
Then the new pump, i have the receipt and the old pump at home and can't get at them until tonight. The frustrating thing was that i had my old pump rolling round the back of the car until sun morning.
It was easy to cross reference to a bosch one at the car spares shop.
I think i paid about £78 trade for it. Although i had to wait until the next day for delivery.
it's 8mm hose out i think to a new high pressure filter canister.
I stripped the old pump down and cleaned it out and it works okay so i kept it as a spare.
I'll look tonight when i get home.

I incorporated a basic clear mesh filter so that i can see if there is any crap in there app £5 off ebay.
Then the new pump, i have the receipt and the old pump at home and can't get at them until tonight. The frustrating thing was that i had my old pump rolling round the back of the car until sun morning.
It was easy to cross reference to a bosch one at the car spares shop.

Did you find one with 12mm push on fittings. That's what I'm struggling to find without going high dollar.mike various said:

I just used a standard fuel filter with the pipe secured with a small jubilee clip.
What i had to be careful of is the radius of the pipework to prevent kinks etc in the pipework.
The reason i didn't use a more expensive filter was in case there was loads of crap in the tank.
Then a cheap throw away filter didn't matter.
The worst thing was that when you take the pipes off the bottom of the swirl pot both tanks empty of all the fuel so it gets every where !.
Since doing mine i've done 400 miles no problem and the filter is still clean with only a few small specks of crap in the filter
The number off my old bosch pump is 0 580 464 070.

I had fun trying to find a filter that had the correct size ends.
None of the local car spares shop had the correct filter.
I bought one of ebay listing number 400767657216.
I know this is for packs of ten but they do single filters in the correct size on other listings.
The filter isn't small approx 100mm long overall but it's had no problem coping with my 350se fueling demands !!!

Hi All. I'm in the process of re-assembling my fuel system after 14 years of inactivity. My swirl pot was full of black muck and smelt of something that the cat had left. I'm managed to cut my swirl pot open, clean and re-weld. Although I did find a firm on fleabay who could make a pattern one for a very reasonable cost. Pipes were a problem, the ones connecting the tanks to the pot are about 1/2" (13mm) internal diameter. Fleabay provided a totally unsuitable pipe although advertised as suitable for unleaded fuel etc. I eventually found a local hose/hydraulic company who supplied all the pipes necessary from tank to pump. I also will be fitting a inline filter from swirl pot to pump. Fingers crossed I managed to flush out the muck using celluiose tinners, about the only substance that would dissolve the black tar muck. Pump has been replaced by a new freebie originally from fleabay so just hope it performs? Cheers J C.
There are two diameters of inlet from the tank to the swirl pot.
One is 13mm and the other i think is about 25mm
You have to get underneath and look to see which one you have.
RT racing advertise them on ebay for about £120 in aluminium but they advise you to see which one you have (Feed pipe from the tank to the swirl pot).

Not so sure about pre-filters with paper elements as they will clog over time. When they clog then the pump sucks the input pipe flat and you get some serious fuel starvation.
Something like ebay item 131059501949 would be better - to catch the specks. The fine stuff passes through the pump and is caught by the proper filter.

Thanks Adam. If only they did that filter to fit 12mm ID pipe. So far the only one that matches the required pipe and mesh size is item 3 in the original post. It wasn't a paper one it had a fine nylon mesh inside and was made of clear plastic so you could see what's in there.
It took me ages to find it !!!.

Hey Mike - looks just the ticket. You can also get the Sytec bullet filter with a 100 micron mesh cartridge (like I have on the 400SX) which is considerably more expensive - and you can't see the crud inside until you open it.Click on the box size and type
