I don't know the location (not the distinctive Blackpool Woolworths), but this car was disqualified from it's class win due to its construction.
LOE3 was originally built as a XK120 OTS roadster, but converted by driver Frank Grounds into a coupe.
Different rear wings (actually altered during the event), different doors and lack of a wood dashboard led to its disqualification.

The Royal Oak had seen better days! With that veranda it has a seaside look to it. The 55 started in Blackpool and finished in Hastings passing through many cities/towns on the way. Maybe the style of lamp posts give a clue?

There are quite a few photos here of the car with various body modifications.

If you search flickr using the search terms '50s' and 'Woolworths' about 8 rows down you find a picture that shows the same place from a slightly different angle. Caroline (now Denmark) Place, Hastings according to the captions

No problem, there is an old rally pics thread on the British Rally Forum that has about a million old rallying photos that are much more recent than yours, but your photos would be of interest to a few users on there. Do you mind if I share them?

So with my original photo being identified as Hastings, then this photo cannot be Hastings as the car has different rear wings. The rear wings were changed half way through the Rally in the Midlands on it's way down south
So my next question is :-
If this isn't Hastings, where is it? Blackpool perhaps ?
Jaguar XK120 LOE 3 - RAC Rally 1955 "Hastings" ???? - Frank Grounds - XK is now Fixed Head

Don't think I know you, just found the topic interesting and googled the car and found the images, not my flicker account?
