You'd probably struggle to find a cheaper Superlight in the current market. I wouldn't worry too much about the mileage, condition is more important. As a comparison, my old Superlight with 34k on the clock, is currently for sale at a dealer for 18.5k, so this looks like a bargain!

That does look like a bargain for a genuine Superlight! If you're prepared to get the cosmetics up to scratch, I'd snap that up quick.

It's not very well presented considering he's trying to flog it - says a little about his ownership style maybe?

What is an 'ownership style'?

I suspect you're looking for heated discussion here but .....

The point I'm making is that if he's not bothered about how it looks when he's trying to sell it he might not have bothered how he looked after it either.

I know there's the argument that he's looked after the mechanicals and not been fussed about the cosmetics but, first impressions and all that.

That's the point I'm making, I'm not looking for a row.

Good price. About what they had been fetching for a decade.

As long as the mechanicals are fine and it doesn't have a lot of corrosion, it represents decent vfm, and being a Superlight, if anything attains classic status in the 7 world, they do.

And a SL has all the right bits on it from the getgo.

Think I'd like to see under the bonnet. Why no photos of the machinery?

Just been to see it !! Apart from a few minor dings etc and a little grubby under bonnet was ok - apart from was reading low oil pressure, min on tickover and only 1/4 when travelling. No blue puff on startup. The one I hired for weekend from Caterham also had low pressure, is this normal ?? I blame the hire car for giving me the bug !!

From memory, the oil pressure when running on a K series should be around 55-60psi / 4 bar. If in doubt, give Dave Andrews (DVAPower) a call. He can give you a definitive answer and also potential causes of any issues and likely remediation cost.

As a Superlight owner, you can't go wrong - well it's my only Caterham and mine has been a dream. My oil pressure is always low until it warms up.

I had my rear wings resprayed by Caterham and it wasn't cheap (about £450 including a minor repair) but i wanted it done as close to original as possible.

http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=127... is worth checking out to see it's siblings! smile

Good luck.

Most likely to be the op sender buggered. You would need to check though.

This is normally the other way round, i.e. as the oil thins as it gets warmer, the OP falls.

Yeah this, when cold the oil is thicker etc and pressure is higher, once warmed the pressure drops significantly under no load.
