I have been keeping an eye on my credit file for a little while now so that I can put myself and Mrs AB8219 in the best possible shape for a mortgage.

I have been paying £14.99 per month to access Experian, but have just seen that I can access it on Noddle, for free!

Anyone know of any other benefits to stay with Experian that I may not have noticed? I have noticed that the score on each is slightly different but not massively.

If not, I may as well stop paying Experian and just check on Noddle.

Any advice appreciated.

They take data from different sources, score it differently and provide data to different customers.

Interesting, thanks for that.

As for me though, any difference worth noting? Or paying for nothing?

£14.99pm is extortionate, in my opinion.............

My thoughts exactly. I use Noddle as a general indicator and would only subscribe to Experian and/or Equifax if I had a problem, or suspected something was amiss, and their files might contain more data.

I think I will cancel Experian, I honestly didn't know Noddle existed and with it being free I can't see any benefit in paying.

Experian are the main players that the majority of lenders will use, Equifax are the poor relation and Noddle (Callcredit) are the third wheel trying to gatecrash the party.

£14.99pm is still a lot to my mind.

If you phone them up to cancel they sometimes offer a similar service for a lot less per month. I think I did this with Equifax a few years ago.

Also you can get all the same data from Experian for £2 - cheaper assuming you don't need instant access or more than 7 reports a month:

http://www.experian.co.uk/consumer/statutory-repor...

The credit score is next-to-useless because every lender will interpret their own data (from many sources) in different ways. If you can't tell if your own finances are getting better or worse from the £2 reports then there is something badly wrong...

Ive been using Noddle for a while, although my score has never improved (or declined) on it, despite clearing a credit card and an overdraft, it still hasn't budged.
Experian/Equifax is definitely not worth paying £14.99 a month for.
