Hello there, Just a question for the Pistonheaders out there…
My DB9 has a bit of corrosion and a few scratches - a testament to its well used and toured life.
I was thinking of getting a respray of the car done. Has anybody done this and could you give an idea of the cost..?
Many thanks.

The price will differ from body shop to body shop. Also what part of the country you are in. Where abouts are you and we can suggest some places close to you. If there are any good ones of course.
Paddy - I'll piggy back on the back of this if you don't mind, my V8 Vantage Roadster doors both have some small marks courtesy of people opening their car doors into mine. The marks are on the "crease line" half way up on both doors. I live in Fleet, Hampshire (so close to Guildford,Basingstoke,Reading etc...).Can you recommend somewhere to get the paintwork sorted ?
It all depends on what you mean by a full respray as the term can mean different things to different people. I own a bodyshop and ours start at around £2000+vat. This is generally for a small sized car with masking and just scratches and small dents that have broke through the paint with masking up of areas not to be painted. Next you have windows, trims, lights etc taken out and shuts done etc which can be from £3000+vat. You then get to all panels off like doors, boot, bonnet etc and so on up to full colour changes and engines out which can run up to 1000s. It better to know what you want to achieve first otherwise your just asking who long is a piece of string. Also as someone has said it all depends on where in the country you are to as the South East can be as much as double say the midlands or North. Also always go for recommendations and obviously the most expensive is not always the best. Also get a full estimate of exactly what your are having done and a break down of materials inc what paint will be used and labour to cross reference these. I get people saying to me all the time I can get it done for half that to which I reply if you can " go for it" as they wouldn't be asking me for one in the first place.
My Vantage is currently in the paint shop ready to be painted but just for a couple of scratches/marks etc (Not the whole car), but unfortunately they are really struggling to get a true colour match on my car. These guys are top quality and are trying all different methods to get the exact paint match (AM, Dupont, spectro-analysing etc). Not sure if others have had similar issues in getting perfect matching paint ? I know the colour of my car is Oyster Silver, and not aware of many others in this 'metallic mushroom brown' as I think its more like. I am using Brin Jones in Bristol as they previously painted by BMW and you could not tell that it had been in a slight front end bump. Very impressed with service, communication and quality.
Colour matching is one of the reason I don't recommend many body shops. I've seen many approved body shops turn out very miss matching panels.
Oyster silver is quite a rare colour and I've only seen one before. It's got a bit of a red tint to it and the flake is very fine. Hope you get it sorted.

It really depends on where you go and how much work you're prepared to do yourself. I had my quarter panel on my v8 resprayed due to a mystery scratch and that was £130. I've had a little bit of work done on the front quarter of my v12 and that was £120. I have known the guy for years and he does a top quality job. I had a previous cars colour changed, stripped out everything I could before I took it to him (i.e. sunroof out, door windows out, mirrors off, headlights, rear lights, plate recess out etc) - the cost of the colour change back then was £1200.
I'm pretty sure I could have my whole car done by him for £2k-2.5k where as some places will see the badge and instantly double or triple that.

Firstly thank you for the recommendations from the Aston PH'er community...
I popped Valerion (my DB9) across to the most capable hands of Aidan at AV Classics to sort the odd spots of corrosion and a give the car a respray for a tenth birthday present - I had decided the car was a keeper!
The results were frankly superb and to my eyes better the the factory finish - a beautiful mirror smooth finish. Indeed Aidan and the boys seem being kept busy by Gaydons finest as quite a few went through his workshops for paint while mine was there. On top of this I had the wheels re-powder coated (in Tungsten rather that the original DB9 LM grey) and diamond cut once more.
If the exterior wasn't enough I went a little mad (actually, probably very mad), and commissioned Aidan's grand master trimmer (Mr John Turner) to retrim the interior. John used to trim the Vanquish MKI in a previous life and it shows - the work was simply fabulous.
I'm a big fan of the original Sara Maynard modernist interior and wanted to upgrade the interior whilst still being sympathetic to the original design.. To which end, with a little inspiration from the DB9 Sportmodificato, I choose a partial quilted finish for the retrim.
All of which was finished off by Mr Tony Hall's excellent knobs and Bamford Rose's crystal buttons (which really lift the interior ambiance to my mind).
Boring photos below.....
Next project, after the bank balance recovers(!), a stereo upgrade whilst leaving original interior features intact - anything must be an improvement on the Linn!
