In praise of the last NA V8 that MB produces...
Discussion
I've done a yr in the 55 by the end of this month. I've put 17,000 miles on her as my daily mile cruncher.
What
A
Motor
!
The depths of ability of this mill just continue to stagger me. How can it return 36mpg and keep the time between Gatwick to Maidstone at 45mins in rush hr traffic? And hit something naughty up Bluebell Hill (I took the wrong lane at the turnoff ok?!) whilst sounding deeply deeply Bavarian?
I just keep looking at the current incarnations of that new 4.0 V8 and thinking "you know what, I just don't fancy it".
This is one of the worlds great motors made even better by only a relative handful ever being made!

Your thoughts echo mine, which is why I'm pxing my 2011 SLK 350 for a new AMG SLK 55 in Selenite grey with Bengal red nappa. Expecting a September delivery. Really wanted to have a V8 and don't think this will disappoint! Probably the final high development point of any naturally aspirated V8.
I agree although for some reason I seem to average only 15 mpg in my SL63 but I really don't care. I like everything about the N/A V8 so much so I plan to extend my N/A ownership with either a CL 63 to replace my current Luxo Barge once I've finished the University Taxi slog and don't need to do so many miles. I am also wildly speculating that the SLS will come down to around £80K. I am saving a few quid every month in the hope that ultimately I'll fulfil my wild dreams to keep the open top SL and have a Gullwing too, if not after saving for two years I'll go to Amsterdam and blow it on hookers and cocaine.

Bavaria is home to more than just BMW...
Yes, Audi for starters.
I've lived in both Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg, a stones throw from both BMW HQ and MB HQ.
Baden-Württemberg is to the west, not the north of Bavaria.
You can change your original sentence by substituting Bavarian for Swabian. All is forgiven.
You are entirely correct and I shall introduce our Germanic friends to British humour when I let them know someone has put the wrong address on their letter to me
Ha! Just goes to show you should never believe anything it says on an official letter!
(The address is correct elsewhere on the letter but for the sake of my dignity I'm clinging to the lifeline of one small error!)
