MK7 GTD Manual vs DSG?
Discussion
Evening guys, I'm currently running a mk7 GTD manual as a company car and the option has just come up today to order another one earlier on than originally planned.
I quite fancy trying a DSG car this time around, although I have no issues with the manual at all, I just fancy a change really.
Anybody on here have any experience with them or had both to be able to compare?
Cheers.

I've had a MK7 1.4TSI ACT DSG for 9 months/17k miles, it just about justifies itself as a company car, but and it's a big but for me I'd have the manual if it was only personal use/less miles.
The petrol has a dry clutch 7 speed as oppose to the wet clutch 6 speed for the diesels, and it is snatchy and as dull as ditchwater to change gear. DSG is OK, but a poor second relation to a torque converter in my experience, and it removes a massive layer of interaction as compared to a manual, and that's my real issue with it. Many really like them, so only you can decide.
Last week I drove a MK4 Golf which is like changing gear in custard and it was bliss to be changing gear myself, you pays your money.......

I also have a manual MK7 GTD that I've had for 15 months now. If I was to get another, which is unlikely, I would definitely try one with DSG. I've came to the conclusion that for me the characteristics of the engine aren't suited to a manual gearbox. Because the power band is so narrow and the engine is fairly unresponsive at low revs I often find myself getting caught out in the wrong gear, or when you're driving enthusiastically you are constantly up and down the gears, which is just tiresome because it's not a particularly pleasant engine to work hard.
