Carpet replace in 94 Griff

My griff was badly stored by last owner just to cause mold etc on the carpets
Has anyone any idea of how much carpet in SqM is needed to re-fit?
I tried steam cleaning them at the weekend but no good!
An earlier post said 15sqm but that is way out it must be closer to 5Sqm??

Also has anyone put underfelt in the footwell? Is it worth doing?

I'm doing mine at the moment. I ordered my stuff from Woolies Trim. Their rolls are 1.5 metre wide. They reckon 7 metres of the stuff (aprox 10 square metres) is about right for a griff but you'll need 10 metres (15 square metres) if you're doing the boot too. You'd be amazed at how much carpet there is when you actually remove it all and they are such weird shapes that no matter how you arrange the templates you will have quite a lot of wastage. I havent finished yet but I think I'll have plenty left over for a protective over-mat in each footwell.

I bought some felt for sound proofing the sides of each footwell. I drove the car with no felt or carpets in the footwells and engine and tyre noise was noticably louder. I also got the thicker felt for underneath the footwell carpet to help raise the height (it had this originally). I found it helps to take lots of digital photos before you rip the old carpet out!

Here is the stuff I ordered:

7mtr 57a £104.23 (carpet)
15mtr 246 £14.70 (piping, I guessed the amount required, probably way too much)
1mtr 292 £9.79 (thick felt, about 3/4 inch I think)
2mtr 136 £8.52 (thinner felt about 1/4 inch)
2ltr 259 Adhesive £19.90
sub total £157.14
Carriage £9.00
VAT £29.07
Total £195.21

Its a messy and time consuming job but you really get to know your car!

Thanks for that info, i have been researching today and i think i will go with the underfelt as well!

Is it not difficult to make the underfelt look "hidden" at the side footwells as there isn't much room? Guessing thats why your using the thiner stuff!!

I think the thicker UF is better for the Underseat and footwell as it has no precussion on the actual finished look.

How are you going to attach the piping you bought?

The stuff that was on mine originaly was quite thin anyway. I'll try and explain but its hard without pictures! The only 'problem' section is the outer footwell panel. It is not flat as there is a pronounced lip running from top to bottom where it meets the the door seal. I just cut the felt to fill the recessed portion of the panel upto the lip. This brings it up to the height of the lip so then your carpet looks nice and flat when you glue it over the top. If you take the felt right to the edge, a) you'll have a visible bump, and b) you'll never fit the felt and the carpet under the door seal.

My wife has a powerful sewing machine!
Apparently some people have got their local carpet fitters or upholstery suppliers to do it for a small fee. I've gone for the cheaper stuff rather than leather so its easier to sew. Remember you'll need to save the rubber heel mats (unless you buy new ones) and I (read wife) plan to sew these back on by hand.

Unfornunatly my wife has no idea what a sewing machine looks like, "sew" its a trip to the carpet man for me.
