OCC on Discovery

Hiya,
Being a car guy this is my first foray into the wilds of leather clad, mirror vizored two wheelers so bear with me and my ignorance. Has anybody seen the custom chopper build reality shows on TV, ie Orange County Choppers and Bike Builders etc..?

I dont know if this show is broadcast on UK Discovery channel but having watch a bunch of these shows whilst spending 3 weeks in Canada, I was wondering if it would be possible to build something like that here in the UK. I know for cars SVA exists, so I am assuming something similiar exists for custom bikes. I am assuming the inspectors wouldnt be happy about easyrider stylee bikes with long fork rakes, spikey metal bits etc..

ANybody have any links to UK outfits that build these type of bikes or web access to info about building a beasty like these. Ebay is a bit sparse here in the UK, but having picked up a couple of magazines stateside everything can be mailordered in.

If so, can I legally build one for road use?

None of the OCC production bikes has a hope in hell of getting on the road over here.

Check out the DOT "Construction and Use" Regulations and you'll see why.

There are custom motorbike manufacturers in this country (buy an issue of Back Street Heroes), who will be happy to build you a bike.

I think most of the choppers are mental. Trouble is they're not really suited to UK weather. Also check out their prices. Most start at around USD 60k and go upwards! i.e. GBP 35k upwards!!

Tuned 120hp v-twin motors with a hard tail though. Scary!
