Electric shavers

I've been thinking of getting one of these as my Gillette Mach 3 leaves my neck a bit red all the time. I don't know anyone with one so forgive me for what might seem like silly questions. I'm only asking a I thought they were relatively cheap but popping into Tesco made me think otherwise!
cheapest was £100 then £140 and lastly £180!!
bugger me!



Are they really THAT good?
The £180 was cordless. Is this the preferred type?
Is the shave good?
Does it help relieve the redness?
How long do they last assuming you need to replace the "blades" (I shave every 3rd day)
Can you use them in the shower?

Which is the best one that isn't overly expensive?

Had a few, including some top-of-the-line Philishave jobs. Inexplicably the Philips ones (all 3 of them) have all mysteriously and suddenly stopped working 2 months outside the warranty period.

By far the best of the lot I've had is my current Panasonic ES-RF31.

It's about £50. I use it every morning in the shower and recharge it every two weeks. Used in conjunction with some Somersets shaving oil it's as close as any Gillette I've ever used and with zero irritation.

Been using it every day for about a year now and still seems to cut as well as it did when it was new. I think a new cutter and foil set is about £30 when it eventually needs one.

Used one for years. Philips at first then moved on to Braun, which I prefer. Get one that self cleans/charges. My current one is a few years old 9 series Braun. Still going strong and I've been using it to shave my head 3 times a week since last October too. I had a lower model Braun before and only replaced it because the base broke. The 9 series is definitely better, well worth the extra money.

I've had one of these for a couple of years now. does the job and I've not felt the need to replace or upgrade it. Maybe once a week I will run a dry razor over just to catch any stray hairs the braun may have missed.

If you haven't used electric it may take a few weeks for your skin to adjust to it.

I upgraded to a Braun 3 before Xmas & wish I'd done it sooner. Was thinking of going for a 5 or even 7 series but the 3 gives a great shave at good value. I wet shave in the shower on a Sunday night & use the electric Tuesday - Friday. No razor burn but I do moisturise afterwards anyway.

Always used Philishave (Philips), first one from Costco that was pretty much top of the range at the time, lasted years. New one is from Amazon and has the clean and charge base. Been fine so far.

It isn't quick to use but gives a nice smooth finish.

But I only shave occasionally, I use a beard trimmer to keep my stubble neat.

I think it all depends on if you have a man stubble or boy bum fluff. I can only wet shave. All the electric ones leave me red and a bit sore.

I used to have the same problem. Get one that can be used in the shower and use a few drops of this stuff at the same time:

Glad I'm not the only one who thinks along these lines! I had two expensive Philips toothbrushes mysteriously stop working just outside their warranty period. I'm now on my third and will be keeping an eye on it. Mysteriously there customer service outside warranty is non-existent. Funny that.

Some clever bod needs to take some of these apart and discover whether Philips has designed in some built-in obsolescence?!!

The Sonicares? I've had the same thing - but just ring their helpline and they tend to replace them free, regardless of warranty. Tell them you have always used sonicare, and are a bit annoyed that this one has died after 3 years.

I maintain stubble with a facial hair trimmer and use my electric shaver for my neck. I define my stubble with some other laser contraption and I'm ashamed to say I don't know the make of any of them - panasonic and sony I think!

I actually recently bought a traditional open blade razor but I prefer the feel of my electric tbh.

I've had a Philishave for some years now but never really got on with it. I do suspect I'd prefer the Braun but the cost makes it somewhat prohibitive to try out.

I splashed out on a series 7 about 4 years ago and it's still going strong. No cuts or redness and has a base that cleans it. I can't recommend it enough.

I the end, I went for a Braun Series 5 5040s.

I thought the mid range would be the best compromise

Update: I've used this shaver for a while and I'm of the opinion that either I'm not using this thing correctly or they are REALLY crap?!

Seriously, I need about 10 passed over an area before I get the stubble off and even then, I need to pass a razor over it to clean up properly
I've tried going upwards, downwards and side to side. I've used gel, foam and nothing at all. Tried dry and in the shower. The results are the same. This seems like a massive expense for a crap product.

The only good thing is that it did help with the redness of my neck....

Am I not using this product correctly?

Not using it correctly or it's a crap model.
I have had a philishave like the one below for 12 years and it's brilliant.
Not far off a blade without getting cut.
