i have a Seat Alhambra as the family bus, its a 2013 2.0 tdi,

It telling me lies, how can I park it up with the range saying 15 miles and the needle well into the red
and then two hours later I start it and the range is 80 miles and the needle heads to the black ?

I did turn the ignition on in between but did not start the engine.

Its becoming unreliable or am I not seeing things correctly ?

Its not like the old days when you could tap a gauge to be sure ha ha ....

Anyone got a thought about this ?

Thankyou

just because it;s not an old dash gauge does not mean it still does not suffer the same issues.

the sender in the tank will be just the same as the ones of old, ie, a cheap float, they bounce up and down as the fuel moves about, so, in the electronics, the signal is damped down, to stop the gauge needle bouncing about, the output of this is also used for the range calculation.

Now, if when you stopped, the gauge reads X, but where you have stopped is less than level, so the gauge in the tank rises, next time you turn the ignition on, it has nothing to average against, so it just reads where the float is now.

My golf makes it up as it goes along. It's pretty poor. I think it's just the design

I've driven a number of VAG models now and they all have dodgy gauges. The main characteristic is if you brim the tank, the first quarter disappears in no time, the middle half goes fairly slowly, and then the needle takes a dive-bomb into the red once you hit the last quarter.
