Trying to ID a car I saw on the M25 yesterday:

Is this a V8 Lagonda? 1 of 7 built?

There is one at the Gaydon factory and that looks very much like it. Not totally sure but my guess is you have seen a very special car. Well done!

Well, what a coincidence.

Last month I knew nothing about this model. Now I can pretend to be an expert, having last week read an article in the current edition of Vantage magazine.

The article mentions 8 cars being built (there were no further buyers).
It was the prototype car that is featured in the article, said to be specified and used by Sir David Brown. That car (not the one you saw) has only covered 14,000 miles and has never needed restoration. It is (or was) for sale, with an asking price of £445,000.

The original list price of the Lagonda V8 was £14,040 in 1974. Huge inflation rate at that time, so by 1976 the list price had risen to £16,731 but by then, no more cars were sold.

(£14,000 in 1974, would be about £150,000 now).

It would seem in those days, that one car is enough for a prototype and it can remain in existence. Now there are lots of prototypes, which all end up being scrapped.

Yes, not many relatively recent development prototypes (DP cars) are allowed to remain, and of those that do, even fewer are permitted to be on the road. biggrin

Wow!

Thanks guys. Admired from a distance and realised it was a 4 door as I passed and had a small Lagonda badge on rear right, which piqued my interest. Noticed it had a different grille in the rear view mirror, which corresponds to the wiki page on the V8 Lagonda!

So is that from a dash cam or did you grab your phone to film? Notice the video is 5 min long and was wondering if you just cut out a 5 min section?

Would love to see a discussion on dash cams. Types, location, managing files. I assume most just delete or overwrite if nothing significant recorded. Anyone with some knowledge up for starting a thread?

Don't bother with dashcams.

You need a high definition GoPro (or other), with an external microphone in the boot. Record your beautiful Aston Martin exhaust sound.

If you want to, it is then not difficult to incorporate your own car sound into James Bond instrumental film theme music. Your family will really enjoy that at full volume. - smile

It's a Möbius dashcam - I think there has been a thread about them. It's basic and cheap, but good quality and reliable. Just fit and forget - it records in 5 minute blocks and erases the oldest first. Easily make out registration numbers etc.
