Hi all, I am looking for recommendations for a good quality reliable radiator restorer in the Herts, Essex Cambs area.

I am in the middle of a TVR Vixen resto. The radiators for my car were specially made for TVR by Sercks and like hens teeth in rarity

My radiator, when I got it, needed a re-core and the two side supports had become disconnected and rusted.

I did a bit of research and located what i thought was a good radiator restorer relatively close to me. The guy told me he had originally worked for Sercks too. However, to cut a long story short they butchered my radiator. It looks like they took a screwdriver to the inside go the top tank to remove crud and have covered it in dents. They gave the soldering job to a saturday helper too by the looks of it, it looks more like mortar than solder and then they painted over the rusty frame.

So I need someone with a bit of skill who can rescue my rad

Anyone know of a craftsman who can sort this out?

Thanks

Why not tell them you are unhappy and get them to fix it? I ran Serck Marstons Vintage radiator division, when it had one, in reading. There is nothing special about that rad other than the unique top tanks.
If they unsolder the core from the tanks it is a simple job to tap out the dents, then reattach properly.

As for the side frames, did you ask for them to be derusted and fully restored? A lot a people wanted to keep patina in the frames, others wanted them like new, all depends.

Colchester Radiators have a good reputation not too far away from you if you want to go elsewhere.

Thanks Spaximus, that makes a lot of sense. Its really only the top tank and the surround that looks any different to anything else.

I had an extended conversation with them about what I wanted and I was very clear that the radiator needed to be returned to original condition, not biff-boshed. The standard of repair was utterly amateur. I honestly could have done better myself. I was so angry I could barely speak to them so I definitely won't be going back there. I won't name and shame, but lets just say, I would like to hear whether anyone else has a recommendation

I recently used Aaron radiators to record a MGB radiator. They provide a collection an delivery service if required.

Try Bryan Radiators in Tunbridge Wells. He's been doing them for 30-40 years. He often makes new parts for repair to classic and vintage rads.
Best that I know.

Another vote for Lloyd Bryan in Tunbridge Wells, he's just rebuilt the rad on my AC - excellent result.
