The very first explorers were 34mm I think then they went to 36mm and now 39mm. The Explorer 2 is 40 or 42.
Yep, quite right Billy. The Explorer 14270/114270 is 36mm in diameter, the later 214270 is 39mm diameter. The Explorer 2 16570 is 40mm and the replacement 216570 is 42mm diameter.D

Hi Dom, How can you tell? (Aside from years of experience
The only difference I can see between this and the 40mm 214270 is the word Explorer is in a different place on the dial. Is that significant?
Thanks in advance.
It says in the link and item description

Doesn't the 114270 also have lume in numbers?
Thanks hilly.
Nikaiyo, yeah, my eyes are old enough to need 'Big Date' complications, but here I wasn't sure if the site's typo was the reference or the case size as either could be incorrect - indeed it's probably easier to mistype 21... as 11... than mis-measure the case. They've several other 36mm Explorers with the correct size stated, so I was wondering how Dom had deduced it was the 36mm case just from the photo.
