A recent close shave with the boys in blue whilst out in the T350 lead me to recall a funny incident whilst out in the chimaera a couple of years ago.
It was a sunny summers day and i was making my way home with the roof down. I got onto the dual carriageway off the roundabout leading out of chesterfield, as i did i noticed a police omega coming down the dual c/way in the opposite direction just approaching the roundabout i'd left.
Now for some strange reason i had a funny thought he might come back down the dual c/way and follow me so i kept an eye in my mirror (BTW i was only doing 40 at the time in a 70 so he had no reason to follow me)
As he went out of site the other side of the R/B i quickly accelerated to 70, as i looked in my mirror there he was. So i pulled into the left hand lane and continued at 70, with him being 6 or 7 cars behind about 500 metres back.
At the first slip road i pulled off to continue home on a country road. Reached the end of the slip road and wasnt quite sure if he would follow as he was still on the dual c/way.
I turned left at the end of the slip road and there was immediately a small layby hidden by bushes from the slip road so i pulled in a fiddled with the stereo.
I sat there for about 20 seconds and low and behold the omega comes past, he only sees me as he's passing. The road he's on now goes over a blind brow and down a steep hill, he disappears.
I then waited 10 seconds or so and set off in the same direction.
As i clear the brow of the hill the police car is just completing a 3 point turn at the bottom as i drive past him.
His face was an absolute picture, suffice to say i was absolutely p*ssing myself as i sped off in the opposite direction.
Can only put it down to the fact he was bored and could only have followed me just on the off chance i was going to break the speed limit.

S`not happened to me but I know a guy who was stopped by a bored traffic cop just wanting to see under the bonnet and have a chat. Probably annoying at the time, but maybe worth some brownie points later if the two meet in different circumstances....
Was lucky recently. When out of town, had to ditch a tailgating Fiesta, only for it to catch up and pass in the 40 zone in town. I was still a bit over, but the fuzz didn`t have time to reload his radar gun after getting Fiestaboy doing at least 70 and trying to prove a point in front of me. Was flagged down and asked if I enjoyed driving my motor car and if I did, it would be advisable to observe the posted limit if sir would like to continue enjoying his motor car......
Hardly getting away with murder but proves Fiestas have their uses.

I was out in the Griff a couple of weeks back and it seemed like the first decent weather we'd had for ages and what with the roads being dry and the roof being off, I rather stupidly went a bit overboard on the loud pedal on the A23, which was pretty deserted at the time.
I say stupidly though because I'd been tempted into doing it by the car that was trying to get into my boot, so after a bit of this I wanted to put some distance between myself and him. So I hit the accelerator and left the car behind, only to find out a mile or so up the road that it was an unmarked black volvo T5 traffic car!! I won't forget the feeling when I saw his lights come on for quite a while!!
I got let off with a warning though as their equipment went on the blink when I broke the limit, which wasn't by much officer honest
A very lucky escape! Bets thing was when the driver of the traffic car said that "it was quite spectacular the rate at which you disappeared". Think I'll leave driving like that to the track from now on!!
Cheers - Chris

Over here there are no "interesting police encounters".
The police over here are on a contract by our, I didn't vote them bunch !, goverment to write a certain ammount of (speeding) tickets a year. If they fail they are reprimanded. In the district were I live fewer than 10 % of the people getting a ticket were talked to about what they did wrong. Our police don't stop you and tel you what you were doing wrong, you simply get a ticket six weeks later.
This means our police has become an extension of our goverment to rob the people. You know what I mean if you look at programs about the Netherlands and see that we have more speedcameras than the USA, Germany, and the UK combined, and that in such a small country. When I drive a nice twisty road from my house to a nearby town about 12 km. down the road I'm likely to encounter 2 mobile speedtraps and one stationary. So beware, as soon as your goverment finds out about this new way of legalized highway robbery you are in for a "nice" surprise.
As you might tell from my reaction this is becoming more and more frustrating. When I'm out and about in the Grif you spend more time looking out for speedtraps then you are enjoying the drive.

I used to work late nights, finishing either at 3 or 4 in the morning. The drive home was 30 minutes crossing a county border. Every night there was a bobby's car parked up just on the North Yorks side.
When we moved to our present place the first month I must have been stopped about a dozen times. I asked several times if there was some process whereby one could appear as 'safe' on their records, ie. not 'up to no good' etc. Each time they had different reasons
for stopping me. One occasion was due to the fact that I had my main beam on and was dazzling the coppers who were parked, engine off having a drink!!!! This was on an unlighted NSL road through open countryside.
However, the prize c*ck award goes to one guy who, having been sat outside Stokesly police station at 3:25 one morning watched me park up, go to the cash dispenser (opposite the station!) take out some money then set off home. The funny bit was as I pulled away, he started up and came SCREAMING after me with full disco lights only to stop me about 30 seconds from where he had been watching me.
The conversation went something like this:
"Excuse me sir, do you mind me asking what you are doing?"
"I'm going home."
"And where is that?"
"Swainby."
"And what are you doing in Stokesley at this small hour?"
"I stopped to get cash out, it's pay day, you watched me. Can I ask why you've stopped me again?"
"You are wearing a hat."
as my efforts to bite my lip failed I said, "well, so are you."
He paused and mumbled something about only doing his job etc. and walked back to his sarnies.
Daft bugger.

many, many years ago (before the M1/M6 link) when Lotus ruled and my mate's TVR couldn't keep up
Mrs M and I were tootling down the hill the first sunny saturday morning in spring, hood off, for a spot of shopping - in the very well sorted S2 Lotus Elan (big valve head et al)when pulled by the motor cycle cop. Much performance of parking bike, removing helmet and extracting notebook. After some banter about Sir and his emulation of Mr Stirling Moss (OH YES
) I was asked for docs. "In the glove compartment" I sez to Mrs M, when out pops a nice fat toilet roll I kept in there in there for all sorts of useful (an en-mentionable) purposes. "Wots that for?" says plod. "For when I meet blokes like you on a nice sunny morning" or some such sez I. Much to my very great surprise plod roars with laughter and sends me on my way with a wigging. Don't think I'd get away with it in the tivver today

intestesting that the black police volvo was the reason you were speeding in the first place....isn't that entrapment ???
I was thinking something along those lines when the driver said "I knew you were going to go..." but to be honest I was so relieved at getting away with just a warning that I didn't bother commenting on it!
Many years ago early one Sunday morning on the way to the Sailing Club. Wife was driving in her new RS2000. We got stopped by an unmarked police car, about 70 in a 50 limit.I got out of the car and left wife looking cute fluttering eye lids try escape a booking. I noticed that the tyres of the police car were in my view not legal. Big debate with policeman and much measuring of tread depth. Net result a booking for the wife who thought things were going well until my intervention. Got home wrote to the chief constable expressing concern about their using cars with at best marginal tread depth for pursuit purposes, result, prosecution withdrawn by cc.
Moral: if stopped, always check the police car.

My brother was given a fine because of an unmarked red Imprezza that was tailgating him on the M3. He accelerated to get out of the way and was pulled over and given 3 points.
I can believe it as I've seen them do it myself. I just don't care, they can damn well sit there at 70mph and wait (unless they put the lights on).

Some years ago a friend and I were walking along a road which runs through a particularly dodgy Slough Council Estate.
A police car pulls up, copper gets out and starts having a word with this friend of mine who is a well known local 'face' (along with the rest of his family)
Some words were exchanged which led to the copper searching this friend and finding in his posession a small amount of cannabis resin.
The copper looked sternly at my friend before biting said resin in half and returning half back to him with the cautionary words 'dont let me catch you with this again'
I am still to this day gobsmacked...

Sort of reverse to teh entrapment --- was driving to get a 4.00am odd ferry on 24th December to Ireland - on the M42 round B'ham see a police RR and potter by at 70 (its about 1.00am) drive along till I think I am out of sight and then speed up -- 15 miles later all the party lights come on the RR -- he followed me with lights off.
Get in the back and told the offence -- followed for 1 3/4 miles at an average speed of 99.8mph -- I like to think he wanted me to get below the 100mph -- The conversation was excruciating -- I was born in Brunei - driver said 'wheres that?' the passanger cop goes on about far east, richest man etc and I crawl with a how clever so few people know where it is. Then asks what I do -- was in computers then and passanger cop goes on about some home video editing thing and I crawl again about 'must be powerful etc'...but I was still booked.
Ended up in the court with £400 fine and 6 points -- wasn't banned so not sure if it was the crawling or having crept in under the 100mph.
As we parted on Christmas Eve Driver said 'I knew you were going to speed, I kept teh window down to hear you accelarate (just how loud is a TVR ?), and I'll have teh window down again'
