991 GT3 Engine Nonsense

Called in at my OPC today and had a conversation with the Service Manager. I questioned him at some length about supposed engine problems. He was totally unaware that any existed. An interesting point that he raised was that if such a problem did indeed exist all customer facing staff would be made aware and have Porsche approved answers and indeed remedies. To date there is not a recall and not one forthcoming.

A Porsche approved answer could be to deny any problem at all existed to remove any lack of confidence issues.

It would , of course, be shooting the industry in the foot to foment gossip about unreliable engines when your bread and butter is provided by customers buying into them...

I know it's just scaremongering by people who are jealous about not having one and trying to talk the price down so they can get one. The worse ones are the old mezger GT3 owners trying to talk prices down to a point they can jump into some new 9A1 tech.

Let's face it, if Porsche knew there was a possibility of a higher than average failure rate on its engines they would get them all recalled again or carry out goodwill repairs once out of warranty like they did with the 996/997.1 engines.

In fact they offered such 1st rate back up and up front honesty to those 996/997.1 owners that I'm surprised people even question their integrity.

Surprised he hasn't heard of it. Everyone else has. Then again Tewkesbury (I am guessing) is a bit backward

Edited to add: show him this http://www.irishtimes.com/life-and-style/motors/po... and suggest he call the Porsche spokesperson quoted. That said it may not apply to any cars that dealer has supplied (assuming Porsche telling the truth re batch issue).

It appears they've got issues with the powerplant and won't admit responsibility or knowledge.....shocker......not

I remember picking my new 996 up from Germany having taken images when I picked it up of lots of 996 C4S Cab's (having wanted to order one but apparently they're not building one) and STILL being told, we know nothing, they're not happening.

What sort of reply did you really think you would get from OPC?

And even more naively, what sort of response do you think you will get from this forum, especially as a 991GT3 owner?

Just to point out a paragraph from the Porsche press release after the first problems with the engines that created the recall

"The letter also holds its hands up to the communications failings in alerting owners, admitting, "Media reports are currently in circulation regarding engine problems that may cause fire on new 991 GT3 vehicles and we apologise unreservedly for the fact that you may have learned of this from a third party rather than directly from Porsche.""
