Driving on the M25 today and the drivers side window explodes, I was in the far right lane just driving under one of the gantries and BANG !

Scared the hell out of me but managed to get over to the hard shoulder eventually. No damage to me but the glass has cut the leather on the door, some other minor damage to interior parts but the worst part is the paintwork, the door, the rear flank, tonneau and boot lid are peppered with chips.

Car will be off to Works Services to be sorted, there goes my many years of no claims.

Blimey - if it's done that much damage to the car, don't be too gutted - it sounds like you're very lucky it didn't damage you!

Any idea why it happened? Windows don't generally explode.

It should not effect your No Claims as dmamge to glass and 'any scratches to paintwork caused by glass' should be covered without impacting NCB

Bloody hell, glad you're ok. Could it have been a small stone come from the other carrier way?

You should take the car to Sl restoration in Crawley, they do a better job than works.

Best of luck with the renewal; a high ranking Navy insurer upped my premium at renewal by £400 for having told them - not claimed for, mark you - about a tiny dent in the bonnet from a small piece of fallen masonry.

Funnily enough they don't get my business any more…

To the OP - glad you're ok, though. 'Stuff' can be fixed.

Yes been there done that, for a windscreen funny enough. As I said it did not effect my NCB but they upped my next premium £280 as the windescreen was apparently 'very expensive'. I walked as well.
