Local OPC currently has a deposit (£5k) from me for a GT4, apparently I am next in line should they get another car (though this is only verbal). So should I get my cash back and do something else with it or sit in hope while Porsche pocket my interest?

Interest of circa 7p per day?

I know what I'd do...

Tonto, I'm still in but without any confirmatuon. DP was 'confident' they would get me a car next year.

I'd stick it out for a bit longer until production ends. Unless you want to spend your £5k of course.

If I were you I would voice an interest for the (possible?) GT4 RS too and ask them to put you on that list as well.

I'm the same deposit in and being told to expect a car next year.

OPC told me they were expecting to hear about next batch in August...

Tricky one - at the end of the day its all down to how desperately you need the £5k back. As said above the loss of interest is so small that it doesn't matter, but if you want the £5k back to do something else (such as buy a different car elsewhere) then there is only a point in hanging on for so long. The dealer certainly wont rush to return it, so will be down to you to know when to call it a day.

I don't believe slots have been allocated yet for the Jan-Mar builds so there is half a whiff of a chance still, and if you genuinely believe you are next on the list it might be worth hanging in until you see people getting slots for that quarter - in which case you will know if you have one or not. That said I wouldn't believe I was "next on the list" no matter what a salesman told me until I actually had a slot allocated, as I believe most salesmen just don't know the difference between the truth, sales talk and complete fiction.

It depends, on your relationship with your dealer. DO you trust them? If yes stay the course. I did and I was rewarded with an RS yet there were dark days. Paid deposit of 10 K in Jan 2014 and only confirmed in April 2015.

Boggles my mind how Porsche manages this. A paying customer parks 10000 GBP for over a year with zero interest and is thankful that he is rewarded with the option to purchase of a car that costs close to 100000 GBP to begin with.
Yet the company ranks very high in customer satisfaction. Complete geniuses.

my local OPC Belfast also asked me for a 5k deposit recently but also added that the chance of me getting a car was zero even in the next 2-3 years, so why exactly was I supposed to be giving them 5k then? was it just to have the privilege of having my name on a list-dear list. I suggested to them would it not be better just to take names and if and when cars became available then ask for the 5k-you can guess the answer.....

Interest free loan to the business at the expense of potentially upsetting most of the depositors/ future customers.

The mind boggles.

I'd call it a reward, that car is worth at least 200K today...

Surely it shows some commitment on behalf of the potential purchaser, whereas you could put your name down on a list at each and every dealership, which would mean nothing.

Given that the deposit can be requested to be returned with zero notice, just what do you think the dealerships do with these loans and how much do they make? At current interest rates it probably costs them more to do the admin than they get in interest.

I would say my commitment is the fact I have bought 4 new cars from them over the last ten years maybe they should value their customers a bit more
