My apartment is on the first floor and has an empty office on the ground floor underneath.
Just having a fag on the balcony I heard what sounded like someone breaking into it.

Wasn't sure if that warranted a 999 or a 101.
Rang 101 anyway, the police arrived in 4 minutes.

As it was it was just a couple of homeless kids putting up a pup tent under the shelter of the balcony.

I've been down since and made em a brew, poor buggers.

But still...impressive response from BIB there.

Makes a nice change from the "I reported a burglary ongoing and it took the police a day/week/month to turn up".
Good to hear. And well done for making the kids a cuppa.
Let's just hope they don't break into the empty office downstairs tonight, and trash the place!

Obviously not Police Scotland, who take 3 days to turn up at a car crash only to find the driver dead and the passenger critical (who dies 3 days later). The only way you can get Police Scotland to react to anything these days is to say someone has a gun - then they'll turn up the next day!

Worth sending a quick email to the force, always goes down well.

Not a dig, but 999 if you believe a crime is taking place at the time smile.

That being said, four minutes on 101 is good! I've been on hold for 25 minutes before.

I thought 101 & 999 were answered by the same operators but they prioritize the call?

I've been wrong before. More than once. hehe

It's a crime in progress so will be graded as an 'immediate response' which requires, and nearly always gets, a resource dispatched straight away.

Too easy to class every division the same. My experiences with CID after burglary has been fantastic, can not fault any of those team members for their communications and attendance and I wrote to them to tell them as well.

Obviously that same quality is not available in all departments and unfortunately, those tend to give the public a not so desirable image.

This is certainly true in a number of cases.

Many years ago, we were woken up by what seemed to be a major incident. Police cars, police van, dog section plus helicopter.

Turns out the house opposite had been broken into whilst the owner was away. The scrote must have thought that the world was ending! I can only assume that there was little else happening that night and the Police were a bit bored.

I reported a breaking at the building site next door as I heard someone moving scaffold clips. Looking out the window a dodgy white pickup was parked with a 40gal drum on the back.

All went quiet and Police were there in a few mins without siren. Talking to the rather attractive WPC she said don't look but she'd spotted someone in the shadows down the street off the site.

The guy got caught with stolen stuff in his van and being bagged on site. He got locked up and no bail!

So it does happen.

Oh thought you were having a go at smokers, just the gays then.

My lips are sealed, I just wish they were that night.

It's worth remembering that CID will almost never be the first at scene for a burglary. It will be response who do the initial attending and how that scene is managed by the response cops will have an impact on the detection or otherwise of the burg. In fact response are holding onto burgs now more and more, as CID becomes less desirable and less well resourced.
