A word of warning for anyone fitting polyurethane tie rod bushes; I just discovered on my car that the length of the spacer tube combined with the shoulder on the bush itself meant that the bush was way too sloppy where it is supposed to sandwich the chassis bracket. The chassis is approx 4mm thick in this area and the shoulder on each bush is approx 3mm - it closes down a little when it's all bolted up but it was still sloppy.

I was chasing a braking problem but it turned out to be this. The front wheels must have been changing their geometry on braking, I can't figure out if they were toeing in or out but getting rid of the excess movement has made a significant improvement.

Thanks for that mate...I have polybushes on mine and they have the collar on the rubber instead of the large washers that TVR fitted/Welded..I do have one set of the inner and outer and washers and was going to get them copied as you cannot get the large washers anymore...Funny that you should say about a braking problem...This may of been the cause of me changing the calipers due to thinking it was them...Might of been a culmination of both..But i still hear a clunking metal sound when i go over a bump in the road or speed hump..Sounds a bit like the spring rubbing on the lower wishbone as if the rubber cap was missing...It only appeared after the bushes were fitted.

Maybe i need the washers...Other than that how did you take up the slack?.....Cheers...Ziga

I had a clonk too, that was one of the clues.

To get it to fit properly you could machine down the spacer and the bush; or you can pack it out with something suitable.
