No real reason for posting other than to share my anxiety as my lovely motor is with the nice chaps at Silverstone for some TLC.

I had quite a wish list after only a few weeks ownership. Hopefully nothing tooooo serious / expensive.

Anyway, a problem shared and all that

Andrew

PS Do other people have

a) coolant header tank level that drops an inch a week?
b) bubbles & 'froth' on underside of oil dipstick lid

Have you been doing mostly short-ish journeys (could explain the oil). Other than that, and I hate to say it, but HGF?

Andrew

My header tank has emptied itself in 1400 miles from new, to the point where its going back to the dealer to establish if I have a problem.

Aside from that, love the car.

Did they mention whether they checked this at the 1000mile service?

DJ - I was fearing the same. My journey tends to be around 10-15 miles a day I guess. Very careful to warm up properly etc. How does a short-ish journey affect the oil?

I'm on 1500 myself and had assumed they checked at the 1000 mile - will have to consult the book tonight and check it. No idea what i need to check yet though!

The fluid in the expansion bottle does seem to find it's own level - but then it should stop going down

Filler cap - hmm, hope it's just a blocked breather. Had the car been sitting around at the dealers for a long time before you bought it? Maybe a good flush/oil change will cure it.

Trefor - The car was at the dealers for I guess 3 - 4 weeks - maybe not used so much before it got there?

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that nothing too bad is happening. Guess Im not the first

Agree with Tagarama on the expansion bottle. I was concerned when I first checked the one on my car as I could not see or feel any water in it. I topped it up to the level suggested in the user manual and once the car warmed up, it spat the extra back passed the very tight cap. This water then turned to vapour on contact with various hot pieces of metal and issued forth from the bonnet vents, much to my horror whilst sat in traffic. I have subsequently been told that each car will find it's own level irrespective of what the owner's guide says and work on a 'put a bit in and let it spit out the excess' policy.

Cheers,
Howard

Hi,

Can you clarify the colour of the "bubbles & 'froth' ". I'm hoping you don't say light brown/cream....

Hi Paul

It was oil coloured I guess. Not obviously 'mayonaise' (sp?) I will have to wait for Silverstone to report. Hoping its not water in the oil Just noticed the bubbles really.

Cheers.

Ahhhh... was ok in the end. We think the car was standing around for a while before I got my hands on it. Bit of condensation. All good now, cheers for asking.
