What should I do (if anything) about a company doing a delivery scam?

By this I mean they make a product, and force you to pay a £3.00 "next day delivery" charge unless you purchase 3 or more and then it is free. There is no way of paying less for a less fast delivery time.

But the product does not arrive next day, or even the day after the next day, in fact it takes 5 days to arrive. The company is located 50 miles from me. It appears to me that they send it "second class" and pocket the £3.00 on top of a £3.25 product!

Or have I got it all wrong and it is Royal Mail who is to blame? It comes in a "Signed for" package however I am never asked for a signature... but they do ring the doorbell and won't leave it anywhere else. The package says "1LG" £2.78 on it so is it actually sent as first class signed for, and therefore not indeed next day?

I am only really pissed about it as

1. I waited in all day yesturday and it didn't show and
2. Yesturday was a special day for someone and it didn't show even though I ordered it 3 days earlier.

It's a £3.25 product...is it really worth your time stressing about it?

Just don't buy from them in the future.

It is a boutique product.

I ordered 3 at once, qualifying for free postage, but paid extra for the next day postage.

Is it out of order to expect to recieve next day postage after specifically paying for next day postage?

It's not a scam... it's a badly worded delivery option, and setup.

If it's 1st class post, it should be labelled as first class post, not next day.

But as others have said, over £3 it's not worth the hassle.

You've paid £3.00 for delivery, which you say they have pocketed, yet the postage alone cost them £2.78. Doesn't quite add up to a lucrative money making scam on their part.

Granted, the next day delivery promise is incorrect, if they are simply sending it by 1st class post rather than dedicated courier, or next day Special Delivery.

Next day delivery usually means that it comes within a day of posting, not all shops actually process an order quick enough to get it sent out the same day, so if it takes 3 days to process and post and then arrives after 4 days total that's still next day delivery.
Can just be down to the wording they use which is very annoying.

Next day delivery via Royal Mail is 'special delivery' and comes with a silver 'next day by 1pm' sticker. If they offered next day delivery and you paid for it; then you should have received it next day in my mind. And I run two online stores.

It's not the money; it's the waiting around all day for it to arrive; I see it both sides of the fence and think they've duped you a bit. If they won't pay for genuine next day delivery then they shouldn't offer it. 'Signed for' is just recorded delivery - same as first class (or second) but with a signature - no guarantee of next day at all. Maybe they don't actually know this... and assume that recorded delivery is a next day service.

Royal Mail offer three main next day services:
- Special - delivered by 1pm the next day
- Special - delivered by 9am the next day
- Parcel Force 24 (Parcel Force but any post office will handle of course)
