Are there any games similar to the original Populous and Dungeon Keeper available today?
I don't want to play strangers sat in their pants, eating pizza and drinking kool-aid on the internet. Just a proper, immersive game which doesn't necessarily rely upon fancy graphics and mega sound effects to mask dull gameplay.

From dust was a similar kind of thing to populous, from 2 or 3 years ago. Played about with it but never bought the full game
I seem to remember a nice simulation of flowing water and lava when you messed around with the land.

Dungeons 2 is probably the closest to DK.
Evil Genius is a similar theme but more Spy themed than DK. Getting on a bit now.
I want to suggest Orcs Must Die but it's not really like either, more of a 3rd person tower defense game but set in a dungeon.

Dungeon Keeper and Dungeon Keeper 2 are still availble if you fire them up with something like DOSBOX.

Fair warning though, the graphics have not aged well. At all.
But the gameplay and audio is still as awesome as you remember.

Heh. Too true. I bought Populous linked above. It defaulted to full screen - laughably bad. Even in a small DOSBox window it's pretty poor. I almost wish I'd not bothered, I don't remember it being quite so poor.
Probably give DK a go too - loved it way back when.

I miss simple shooters like Quake II too.
