Inspired by someone's comment in another thread...

I had a 'nearly' moment about a week after passing my test. Went out for a drive with a friend accompanying in the passenger seat. He put on 'Blur - Song 2', rather unwisely it later turned out, and i put the hammer down. It was been raining, and had been for a while, but this didn't put me off at 17 for I was better than M. Schumacher. No really, i was! Anyway, we came flying up to a roundabout and needed to take the third exit which was 270 degrees to my right. So, i yanked the Un-assisted steering wheel to the right, and was a little suprised that the car didn't actually change direction. I had managed to experience a little four wheel drift just days after my test, but never before had i encoutered the strange combination of terminal understeer and aquaplaning. Luckily i managed to use my now rudder like steering to just miss the kerbs to the straight on exit, and breathed a sigh of relief. Actually, i thought it was hilarious, and did exactly the same thing with the now ex-gf exactly a week later in the opposite direction - again by accident. After that.. i learned a little!

Crash during Vivaldi "Four Seasons" (can't remember which one) and have never listened to it since......
It wasn't exactly to blame, more the fault of the black ice at the corner!

Crashed my Mazda listening to Chris Moyles Don't think I can blame him though.

My Almera was written off whilst listening to Air, "Sexy Boy".

Same song, an ex tried to kill me and my Saab by putting her hand on my leg(ish).

Not long after I passed my test I hit an HGV on a country lane writing off my 2.3 Cortina whilst listening to Blondie's Atomic. Still raises a smile..

Oh, in another incident, with the same friend... infact maybe he's to blame! This time he turned up Electric Six - High voltage as we hooned around some country roads at about 1am in Janurary. What i learned on this particular day was that black ice is a particular problem on freshly surfaced roads. Ignoring the signs which show the car with it's wheels crossed over, mine did the very same. I took a stage left exit on a right hand bend, backwards. Still, we found it funny, after we had to wait a few hours to be towed up the embankment by my friend who handily had a tractor. He found it particularly amusing as i remember...

I think I was a learner driver in 1986/7, driving with my mum as the supervisor listening to a track from Genesis' "Invisible Touch" and listening out for the barely-audible "achh!" (steady Wildcat) at the end of the track. So busy doing so I almost ran into the back of the car in front but was stopped by my mum shouting a warning and me hitting the brakes by reflex. Oops.

Scarily, Bruce Springsteen's Wreck On The Highway was playing on my stereo when I ran into a flash flood on New Year's Day. Perhaps the song helped me avoid an accident! But seriously, I'm amazed at how calm I was, particularly as I'd run into a wall of water at 70mph in a massive headwind with my wheels wandering between lanes, visibility at zero and no hard shoulder.

Nearly stoved into the back of a Ferrari 348 whilst listening to Love Among The Cannibals by Jefferson Starship once, and I almost broadsided a bright yellow Bentley Continental that had run a red light onto a roundabout with Rock Brigade by Def Leppard blasting out of my speakers.

Might I tactfully suggest driving without music on for a while?

A ggod friend stacked a little jap box violently into a telegraph pole in Cyprus, arse end first fortunately. He recalled that in the absolute silence after the crash the stereo was playing "This is end" by the Doors. Very poignant in the context apparently....

Had a moment because of it once.

Merrily zooming my way to university through the brecon beacons and showing off my cars handling to my flatmate, we had a cheese moment and put on Aerosmiths 'The Other Side'. Had a solid 4 wheel drift around one of the hairpins, but I played it cool and pretended it was intentional.

And resolved never to push a car harder than i would otherwise to show off again

Nope, never crashed (yet!)

but if I was to crash I would pick something nice and dramatic like Rachmaninov...

...or Muse.

Well APPARENTLY some people around here claim to get two sets of clubs in the back of a boxster, so I reckon I've got a chance with a piano.

Perhaps a baby grand, though - not a concert grand

Failing that, I'll just have to find a CD
