I've owned the car about 4 years now and the entire time the heater would only work when it was in the mood to. And annoyingly, it usually decided it didn't want to work when it was needed the most! For the 6 months leading up to fixing it, it had actually not worked at all.

I decided I needed to get it fixed in time for Le Mans this year, because I didn't want to risk facing a long journey with steamed up windows should the weather be bad (which turned out it was!), so tried making contact with Paul Smith to get it fixed. After a couple of attemps without luck, I totally forgot about it until a week before the trip.

Knowing I'd left it too late, I decided to take it apart myself. I had done this not long after owning the car to see whether there was anything obviously wrong, but couldn't see anything and stuck it back in the car. This time, still not knowing what I was doing, I pressed all the little chips and sprayed generous amounts of wd40 on parts of it, including the plug in the car, and hey presto, it's worked perfectly ever since! Honestly thought it would konk out again after a few days, but it's been a couple of months now and it's still great.

I know a lot of these units are genuinely knackered, but maybe there are a few out there like mine that just need a little tinkering with to get them working again. I still can't quite believe I've got a fully working heater!

Mine also buggered up not long after getting it running again after 6 years in the wilderness but when I took it apart there was a couple of burnt out components. Paul Smith sorted it & I had it back within a week! Probably an easy repair, but I do wonder where we will be once Paul decides he doesn't want to do it any more?!

Anyway well done on getting yours working again. Don't suppose you noticed what version it was did you? It's stamped onto the PCB...
