Monaro - VXR8 - Monaro......
Discussion
Just curious, has anyone here ever owned a CV8 Ro, sold that and got a VXR8, then sold the R8 and got a VXR Monaro? It's a thought that's crossed my mind a few times recently. I'm about to move house, and the new place has got a garage big enough to get a VXR8 in - but in the long term I still like the RO, even though I know that the R8 is a far superior car under the skin. Plan would be to keep whatever is in the garage for best, and buy cheap runaround for daily hack.

That is a difficult one TBH.
I think if you have a really good VXR8 you should keep it. why? well you have already had a Monaro so keep the memories. If you go back to Monaro you may end up getting one that needs work, probably more than you think....they are getting on a bit. You might regret getting rid of a good VXR8.
Or,if you really want another Monaro, think of it as a week end Road Warrior, or a Classic car that needs money spending on it (which it will) that might not be so bad.
If you go down that route with both eyes open, you may justify the cost. It might end up a keeper?
I'm good at giving advice...hopeless taking it..best of luck.
Regards John

I'm going the other more obvious route. Had the 5.7lt VXR Monaro (my favourite so far) and currently the 6.0lt VXR Monaro with a view to getting a VXR8 when the funds are available. Although it's difficult to justify as the Monaro is spot on and has LPG so is painless as a daily driver which means I'm finding it difficult to consider changing (only annoyance is the woefully slow seats when putting the kids in hence the appeal of 5dr VXR8)
Ah yes, i'd forgotten about the slooooow seats in the Monaro! My saddest memory of my Monaro was when I took it's new prospective buyer out for a drive in it - I just wish i'd known that that was the last time I was going to drive it. Then as soon as I saw him drive away in it I instantly regretted selling it.

íFunny.. 5/6 years ago a had a nearly new red VXR8 LS2..I really wanted a Monaro VXR and could not find a good one (also thats were my budget started...which grew). Yes the VXR8 is a dynamically better car and family friendly....however a when a looked at it I always thought it was great looking but a bit jumped up Vectra. Also I thought because the Monaro was not a well planted it was bit more fun to drive lighter and moved around a bit more.
So recently purchased the 3000mile Monaro VXR...I just love the shape of it and when you sit in it feels special...its a bit Nascar and American muscle style. I think a future classic not just becuase of what is under the bonnet but the shape to...the rake alone on the front and rear screen is just one thing you notice and bubble of the arches. Somtime I have to lift the doot in garage when walking past just have sneeky look. Bascially 2door Coupe v 4 door Saloon

They look even better if you lower them and stick 285 tyres on the back. I do think occasionally, shall I sell and get something else? But then I realise if I ever did sell I'd instantly regret it. Weird as I've never grown so attached to a car like this one. I fear I will be buried in it!
