right i was thinking i read one post that said the audi engine that you can put in an elise is heavy also the honda engine is slightly heaver however not as much as the audi lump.. so i got thinking the honda engine makes 200bhp from the spec sheets i have read, so what about the new mini engine, bmw so reliable. the supercharged one with works package makes 200bhp or just over is 1.6 so is smaller and is ally so is light what do you lot think???

just a thought, would like to know what you think..

I love the way people quote performance numbers for a conversion that has yet to turn a wheel.....

as for the mini engine, have you ever looked up the stats for it? it's hardly light...

Who's quoting performance numbers?

If you're reffering to Z cars then they've tested at least one conversion with the set up stated on the net... or so the z car guys at Autosport International told me

so far as I know, the only *runing* busa engined Elise is Geary Powels from Eliseparts.

ZCars has not run yet (as of the autosport show)

so, where did the numbers come from?

I'm just going by what the z cars representatives said at Autosport.... why would they build at least one car without testing it? I'm sure he said they've had numerous elise conversions already....

that's not what the guy on the stand said to me when I ask the question directly...

the one there had not been finnished (no wiring/ECU/etc) and if you look closely, there is no way the clam would fit over it without modification (it's too high).

Insted of the BMW s/c effort, why not opt for the s/c honda circa 300bhp.

Now that "extra weight" wont even show!

OK - this question about 'will this engine fit' cmoes up every week on here

heres something to consider:

1,. The Elise has been around for 9 years
2. Until this year it had a K series Rover engine
3. Owners have been competing in them for 9 years
4. Owners have always wanted more power
5. Every option of tuning a K series has been done...10x before over and over
6. Every option of 'what engine will fit' has been done 10X before...over and over
7. On the market there are 2 main engine swaps - Audi & Honda - available (for people not interested in K tuning)
8. You could fit a 2L V8 if you had £20K
9. You could fit anything you want if you had £1000000
10. Other engines have been tried for 'one offs'
11. It dosent matter anyway as if you are a driving guru, a std Elise will see off most things on a twisty racetrack
12. There is a reason why there are 2 main engine swaps available from people who have tried the other options and ended up with these options.....if you wish to learn the hard way and spend ££££££ then go and try to fit whatever engine takes your fancy.......come back when it dosent work

ps - the search/archive facility will keep you reading for weeks

Perfectly summed up Bogie! In the end the choice is preference - they are all "better" in different ways.

Fair do's guys,

Lets not be too harsh.

There are guys out there who perhaps don't own the car of their dreams yet and dreaming up new ideas is a way of fueling that passion.

I've always wanted a sports car and until the funds permitted I would spend my time imagining how I might tune it, how I would drive it, what colour it would be etc, etc.

It's just a bit of fun and helps ease the torment of not being able to own one at that particualr moment in time!

So go for it Turbo, keep coming up with new ideas, and if you are truly passionate about the Elise, you'll no doubt be putting some of your ideas into practice soon.

Cheers
