Currently in Vegas. Looking at a Navitimer which isn't massivley cheaper, probably about 10%. But rather than do the normal deal of adding a leather strap into the purchase the sales guy produced a very nice Breitling wallet made by Hermes and said he would throw that in.
The normal Hermes wallets are £600 and I've never seen these breitling endorsed ones before - had a money clip too so very pistonhead well built director type!. Anyone seen any of these wallets before and are they going to be a good deal breaker??? Or go for the strap??

Cheers

Is the wallet worth £600 to you?
No? In that case could you sell it for £600?
Still no? OK, could you sell it for £100?

It's subjective, but that's not much of a deal maker for me. Throwing in stuff that you don't want and can't shift on isn't really very useful. They probably got it for free anyway, which means you aren't pushing hard enough.

10% cheaper over there is actually 8% dearer than buying in the UK. Cost *0.9 * 1.2 = Cost * 1.08. You need to pay 20% VAT when you bring this back through UK customs.

It has been said before, it will be said again. You should talk to Dominic Hackett of this parish before you part with your hard earned. Dom's a gent and if he can't help he'll let you know quickly.

An 8% price hike and an unwanted wallet doesn't sound like a bargain to me.

That would be naughty, best we not discuss it.

It is a useful bargaining tool though. Abroad price needs to be at least 17% cheaper than UK price (after you've been clobbered for currency conversion charges and exchange rate) because other wise abroad price works out dearer than UK price.

So the dealer has to beat UK price- 17%. But that would just make the cost the same, buying abroad has other issues (eg. not being able to take it back to the dealer you bought from for dealer support). So the deal has to take this into account. And of course that doesn't take into account any discount you may be able to talk a UK dealer into.

"I do like your watch Mr. Dealer. I do want to buy it, but I need to beat the UK price by at least 30% or it isn't viable. Here's why..."
