I'm a structural engineer in the offshore oil and gas industry. 20 years experience, post-grad qualifications. Plenty of steel design experience. Not so much concrete experience. Various stuff, up to lead engineer level.

As you may know, offshore oil and gas is down the toilet at the moment. And unfortunately for me, as I've just completed a 7-month long round-the-world family holiday, I've totally drained out the family bank account and am now raiding my wife's reserve account. I can't afford to sit this downturn out like I may have otherwise. It was a very good holiday though smile

Any tips for other areas of engineering I can go into for 6 months or so?

I can think of - buildings. Have never done a domestic or office buildings. Have done some industrial plants.
Rail - dunno anything.
Nuclear - dunno anything, but it is highly regulated like oil and gas.

It may not be a bad idea to try rail or buildings if I can get into it, just for a backup for later on.
