Is this finally some common sense?

Will this deter any burglars, or will they simply go armed (if they aren't already)? What is the best weapon for self defence / protecting your property?

oh come on - 'finally common sense' - the law is the same as ever (no changes), and there have been approximately 11 cases where householders have been prosecuted in the last 15 years - all the examples I am specifically aware of are more than fair, including murder in cold blood and torture, not to mention shooting unarmed people running away.

You never were likely to get nicked for battering a burglar, and you are no more likley now. The only reason the goverment has issued this is to shut the tabloids up.

There are a lot more things happening in the world which deserve our attention. This is not one of them.

As for weapons - as the man says - decent security is the way forward.
