There's been a bit of doom and despondency around the S forum lately so I thought I'd let you know about my winter plans for the S in the hope it might lift things a bit.

For a while I've been toying with the idea of trading in for a Griff and have spotted hanging around a few nice 5.0L examples - but when it came down to it I couldn't part with the S. The Griff's were nice ...but a bit too nice if you know what I mean. There's nothing I've found (in my price range) which gives the same raw grin factor as the V8S.

I have a bit of savings so I thought what the hell - treat the S to a refresh, so...

It's currently with Jason & Dom at TVR Power for a bit of engine fettling (increased compression, head & port work, racier cam). I've also ordered CF trumpets, twin throttle plenum, sports manifolds and the new 'Y' piece from ACT. And finally - to get the best out of the package a Tornado chip, which I'll get mapped once the engine has run in.

Can't wait to get it back The run-in period is going to be torture.

Unfortunately, due to a knackered back, I didn't get the chance to stick it on the RR beforehand but I'll post up the results from the RR mapping.

Next up - cosmetic work. Few leafs out of Mr V8Smith's book I reckon.

(Don't tell me what what else the money could have got - I'm happy !)

Good stuff Kenny and when you're finished, you'll have a more unique car (in numbers etc) than a Griff (nice though they are).

Good to see , I would expect to see it go north of 250bhp which is still quiet hard to achieve in a 4ltr, don't be fooled.
You never know you could end up with over 270 bhp once all thats done . Which puts you in griff500 country, apart form the torque, which should climb to 270+ as well all being well copmapred to most 500's which seem to hit the 300 mark.
ALl IMHO and not a promoise or guarantee to what Dom and co will get out of it in the end, they are all different.

Thanks all. I'm hoping for 260-270ish but as you say - they're all different. It's only going to make a great car even better.

Harry - was the improved exhausty bits developed on your car? If so - thanks for leading the way

If Tim won't oblige - I'll buy you a

Dunno what it is currently. I planned to go to the East Anglian RR day last weekend to get a 'before' but threw my back out & couldn't drive.

I haven't noticed it particularly slower or faster than other V8i (plural of V8S?) while hooning - but you never know how hard the other guy/gal is trying

Hope you find a way to keep yours ,Pies

Nice one Kenny, I know what you mean, I like the Grif but as a second car for fun ytou cant beat the V8S IMHO, I am going to keep mine too. Our cars should be the same, or similar, then after both of our fettling is finished so be interesting to see how the figures compare!!! My car has apparently already had the Dom treatment, Gas flowed heads, Pocketed pistons, larger valves and a TVR 51 Cam, is that what you are getting or slightly different??? I already have the ACT Sports exhaust + Y piece, I have the Tornado chip, just need to get the time to have it done! And my next purchase is going to be the ACT CF twin plenum and trumpets, look forward to seeing/hearing the results when its done.

Sounds like they'll be similar Mike. Although I believe it's a Kent 214 cam - hopefully just the right side of racy without too much lumpiness about town.

Maybe we should ask for a group discount at Austec

If the exhaust is what I think it is, very subtle but it does help .
Re the cam, I assume you came to the 214 after advice , certainly quite a wild one for the 4ltr.
Mine has a 218 which whilst having a higher 'cam' number is actually the slightly milder cam . However I find it works for me and you don't lose the low down torque. No dis to Dom et al, but 214's are an old cam IMHO. The orignal 4ltr HC used it and mine was a bench mule for it too.
Ask around a few more specialists as to what cam they beleive the best compromise is, as it is a compromise in road car.
Just to clarify, I am not slatting the 214, it is good cam, but IMHO there are more modern and more developed ones out there.

I wish I had a 'Cat amongst Pidgeons' Smilie...

Do you realise what you have done Kenny...

There are numerous S owners who have tinkered played with and generally let mechanics loose on their P&J....

They never post their gains or figures.... (unlike us V6 owners....)

It's these V8 boys.

Please be the first to post.. EGO will prevail, silence is golden and all that....Figures boys.....!!!

Where are the graphs...

1) Mine went in at 239, injectors were shagged!
2) Tornado added (injectors still shagged) RR1: 254bhp
3) Jectors cleaned then RR2, unknown figures due to wily bhp output (austec RR) pop n bang map added
4) RR3 and same again, less juddering but still no figures from Austec
5) NoRR but pop/bang map removed, no juddering, no figures, 254bhp, sold car 1 day later.
(Estimated BHP 260+ after injector clean.)

Car up for sale at Dream Machines. I'd bet that with a bit of money my old V8S could see 290bhp. Bog standard, sports pipes and ypiece, it had potential

You mean, because it's been modified?

Mine turned out around 265 bhp / 285 lb-ft at Power Engineering, although some recent mods might have pushed that up just a touch.
