I have owned one of these cas for many years, and until recently it has run on the original equipment tyres - Pirelli P6000.

The road noise has always been dreadful (said to be due to the 'accountants in charge' period at M-B. Therefore when all four tyres were recently due for replacement, I tried to select lower noise tyres.

Dunlop Sportmaxx RT tyres were chosen, and there is certainly a noticable improvement.

It is the coarse road surfaces that are the problem with this model, because the rise in road noise levels from smooth to coarse, is a greater percentage than with many cars. Excessive coarse surface road noise is perhaps a surprise with this 'premium' model. The 218bhp V6 engine is very quiet, but road noise is the main thing that spoils this comfortable cruiser.

Has anyone had noise killer insulation fitted to a CLK?

Do you have extra wide 18 AMG wheels? Bigger wheels have a larger footprint and therefore more friction and noise.

Did the old tyres have any uneven wear?

Poor alignment can cause road noise issues on these cars.

Goodyear F1s are very quiet - a huge improvement on my CLK55.
