Can Windows Media Player burn over 80 mins MP3
Discussion
I am burning MP3s onto a standard CD for my new MP3 head unit, but it won't let me burn more than 80 mins worth of music onto the CD even though there is loads of space.
I want to end up with many albums on one CD in the car and do away with my autochanger in the boot.
I like using Windows Media Player and don't really want to use another utility if I can help it. Any ideas how to go past 80 mins?

Windows Media Player only burns disk via the "convert to digital audio (CD-Music) format and then create disk" method.
If your car audio system will support mp3 native on CD (I would check the documentation first, or just look on your audio receiver, it will normally say MP3 somewhere), you can just copy the mp3 files onto the CD and Robert's your father's brother.
At that point, you are only limited by file size/compression settings of the MP3 files (for more files on disk - reduce quality of MP3's) You can get 700mb of files on an 80 minute CD, so that would be boatloads more than CD Audio.

Err.. not any more. Windows Media Player 10 will burn MP3 disks quite happily. I have just burnt 500Mb of MP3 onto a cd with WMP. Enough for several hours listening.
Just ensure that the tracks are stored in WMP as MP3's (rather than WMA format) and then in the right hand burn window, at the top select Data CD instead of any of the other options. It even generates an M3U playlist as well.
Before you burn, click on the icon with a tick on a piece of paper, just above where you selected 'Data CD', and ensure that you 'Select quality level automatically' and untick 'Apply volume levelling' or else it will convert your mp3 to wma before burning.

Oops... Wouldn't it be easier just to highlight your MP3's and send them to your CD? Or does doing it this way solve other issues as well?

Yes you can do that and it does work. BUT you lose the grouping of tracks by album name and its harder to jump straight to the track you want. For example instead of having 20 albums with 10 tracks each you now just have 200 tracks to wade through.
Thanks for the tip though - it does work
